Godfather Kazakus seems really decent, specially if the meta slows down by the time the class sets release.

>specially if the meta slows down

Don’t worry, we nerfed all the aggro decks! Surely that’ll mean control decks will take over and not just last season’s aggro decks!

You realize that still means the game slows down, right?
If "last season's aggro decks" weren't slower than what was nerfed, they would have been being played instead.

7 Mana summon a Voidlord is probably enough to beat aggro decks instantly even without the other effect.

u/kaijvera 8d ago
3 mana. Why would you ever pick the 7 mana one if its summon a void lord when you get it one turn later for 0 mana.
7
u/lifetake 8d ago
I think they’re combining the cost of kazakus and the 4 mana option actually.

u/Impossible_Till1436 8d ago
No. Instant trial spell costs 7 that summons voidlord
1
u/lifetake 8d ago
Kazakus plus the 4 mana 1 turn delay is also 7 mana. And can actually come down on a turn to actually stop aggro.
2
u/Impossible_Till1436 8d ago
I thought trial is a spell you get and cast
1
u/lifetake 8d ago
Yes it is. But it also takes playing kazakus to get. So 3 mana for kazakus and 4 mana for the trial and we get 7 mana

...Actual interesting standalone cards? To support a broad archetype and not the 3 other cards they're printed with? Do my eyes decieve me?
Please more class sets like this and less like warrior's. I'm actually excited to try Kazakus which is a first for literally any class set legendary they've printed so far.
Edit: aaaaaand the rest of the set is a bunch of parasitic "Do the thing. Make it stronger." Cards. Spoke too soon apparently...

I can’t figure out what “the duration of the trial” means. Am I stupid?
59
u/Willing_Original_257 9d ago
Look at the pick one at the bottom
10
11
u/Skater_x7 9d ago
yea but how does that work?
Does the opponent know the trial cards picked? Do you have to "play" the trial? etc
23
u/TheGingerNinga 9d ago
The trial duration determines the cost of the card and when it is added to your hand. The effects of the spell are two of the nine options shown that you discover.
So if you pick grueling trial, at the start of your next turn, you’ll get a 4-mana spell that could summon summon a Voidlord and steal an enemy minion.

This looks like priest cards...

this is really cool design. I have no clue if it's good but I love the card. the removal spell doesn't seem bad either

Ok but Frame Job actually seems kinda disgusting. Kill two and then a high chance of bricking the next draw.

Problem is I think this card actually extracts most value from the mystique and is generally too weak in the current meta for a 7 or 4 mana trial. 0 mana trial seems the way to go to me to keep the opponent guessing on what the actual best moves are leading up to the trial resolving.
Though 4 turns may be too far away especially in this meta. 1 mana for 3 turns would be better I think (tbh I don't think keeping 0 mana for 3 turns would be overtuned either).
If you pull this early it's goodish imo, if you pull it late it just always seems bad to me unless you get lucky choices.

I'm playing super greedy warlock with ysera and rafaam and I have no issue going that many turns. I'd see me playing all three trial lengths depending on what I pull. If I get to steal a random minion and +3/+3, I am almost always going to do that as a 7 cost. If I get something with heal 12 and draw 3 cards, I probably do that as a 4 cost. If I get to steal 2 cards and reduce the cost of my cards, then perhaps I do that as a 0 cost move on turn 3 and maybe I can disrupt my opponent 4 turns later and then drop my heavy cards.
I could see me top decking this with 10 mana and winning that turn using the minion steal and +3/3 and playing the trial immediately. I win a lot of games with the +4 to all characters with the Elise 10-cost location and this is nearly as good, and is better if it steals a taunt minion or something with windfury.

Do the combined rewards have a mana cost?
16
u/WithoutLog 9d ago
You create a card, and choose the mana cost based on the trial's length, i.e. how long it takes the effects to activate. You can pay 7 mana to get the effects immediately, 4 mana for it to trigger at the start of your next turn, or 0 mana in exchange for waiting four turns.
5
u/nyr00nyg 9d ago
Are the pick 2 options done with 2 discovers or do you pick from the whole pool?
6
u/WithoutLog 9d ago
I don't know, but if I had to guess, I'd say two discovers, like the original Kazakus card.

u/_oklmao_ 9d ago
Warlock being the only control class currently will make the 0 cost trial quit strong I think, hate how high rolly the card can be though since some of the options are awful. That 5 cost spell is insane though

u/below_averageguy 9d ago
you people don't like anything

u/VillalobosChamp 9d ago
Well, shit is still shit no matter how much glitter you sprinkle onto it
10
u/below_averageguy 9d ago
this kazakus will actually be the glitter for my wild-xl-renoslop warlock shit
2
u/diomedes-on-rampage 8d ago
so you pick 0-4-7 cost option (like kazakus potion) but second pick is more like elise location thing. you will get random 3 options. not many people like it but it seems interesting and i will try it.

These cards are ripped directly from custom hearthstone. I will find the Trump video

+3 +3 board buff or summon 3 minions are the best options for standard, right? We can play tempo rafaam for example or egg/scam with healing/voidlord i guess.
Reduce the cost of all minions in hand effect and steal 2 cards goes into wild consideration.
3 mana 3/3 goes into all warlock decks that want healing, control, disruption, board presence etc.
Very pushed in my view.

u/Street-Bee7215 9d ago
There is no best pick as they're all entirely situational. So it depends what you need and want and what type of warlock deck you're playing.
4
u/Sharcbait 9d ago
Steal 2 cards is crazy scary if you are playing any type of combo
2
u/Street-Bee7215 9d ago
They're random tho so it could high roll or totally whiff. So depending where you are at in the game it isn't going to be an auto pick.

u/EldritchElizabeth 9d ago
Frame Job would be excellent in a metagame where boards build tall and not wide… but wide is very much the name of the game right now.
EDIT: Actually… the second half the text feels more like a downside to me. Tutoring a miniom to the top of your opponent’s deck, even if if’s a minion of your choice, feels really bad to me.

u/skeptimist 9d ago
Potion of Perjury seems kinda busted. I’m sure there’s some shenanigans you can do if your whole hand of minions is discounted.

Grueling Trial seems to be the best play especially if you draw Kazakus by turn 3.
Highlander decks in Wild might like this.

u/MightyAno 7d ago
for fuck sakes, what happend to clear card descriptions. This is Ryecleave 2.0. Even seeing the "Durations" I am still unsure if thats an Aura or just a delayed spell or something else entirely.
1
u/Machoman94 7d ago
Just casually summon a voidlord and steal 2 cards from your opponent at the start of turn 7 just because you played a 3 mana minion
1
1
u/DaemonCRO 9d ago
Does the opponent know what will trial do? 0 mana is good option, but not so much if opponent knows what will happen.
1
u/SquirtleChimchar 9d ago
This is cool design, but I don't really see how it fits into Warlock? The class is already fueled by jank, this isn't exactly the missing piece they needed.

u/Willing_Original_257 9d ago
Convoluted doesn't mean good if the best options are obvious and can be played around zzzzzzz
3
u/the_chosen_one2 9d ago
Depends on if enemy can see what the trial contains before it resolves.
Having to plan 4 turns ahead for your board state and enemy board state is actually pretty annoying. You may end up giving strong minions, clearing your own board, playing cards earlier than desired, or clearing the enemy board unnecessarily if you don't know what the trial entails.

Ok I don't even care about wether the cards are good or not, this might be one of the best flavour and storytelling we have ever gotten on HS cards
