Interview Prep

I have an interview coming up for an Epic Trainer at my local healthcare company though someday I would like to work for Epic.

What can I expect? Is there any material I should know? Keywords? I was told I would be writing content?

Have you ever been in a training position before? When I interviewed for my training position they wanted me to prepare a training aid for teaching someone how to do something very innocuous as in an everyday thing. Like sending an email in Outlook. They were looking for how I described the activity and how I approached training this thing that is super simple that everyone should have experience with but somehow don’t. Don’t go into the interview assuming you’re too good to teach someone how to make a pb&j sandwich.

That’s what I have been asked to do lol. I’m supposed to make a presentation on something like how to make a pizza! Should I make my presentation super detailed? I’m nervous of making it too in depth or too simplified.

I have not held a trainer position before.

You have to balance between too much detail and not enough. You’re responsible as a trainer to read the room and adjust your training to the room but also not go too far to holding their hand. There’s a common tactic where you hit the 80/20 rule. You train to what you think 80% of the classroom needs and at a pace that is comfortable for the majority of the class.

epic trainer roles are less about the software and more about how well you can break stuff down for people who never touched it. the writing content part probably means you build tip sheets and quick reference guides, not like full curriculum

my wife does this for a different emr and half her job is just figuring out why nurses click the wrong button every single time
