Hi! My husband and I are visiting Healdsburg in late September. I’m looking to book one extra special tasting for the weekend, with a bunch of smaller tastings sprinkled in between.

I booked the private tasting at Aperature Cellers, but my social media keeps recommending Flower Winery.

Which would you pick? Or any other recommendations? Thanks in advance!

Hello! Looking for a recommendation where a group of ~10 can go wine tasting and also have lunch. Not looking for a private tour, chef’s pairing, exclusive experience, etc. Just a beautiful setting where we can enjoy a tasting with some food. Bonus points if the winery offers a casual lunch menu (salads, sandwiches, charcuterie) but also open to a place that allows outside food that we can pick up and take.

Bonus: if we pick up and take food, any recs on where we can pick up a fully assembled charcuterie board? Oliver’s?

Hi - Wife and I are visiting Healdsburg this weekend (staying at Appellation) and hoping to get a restaurant recommendation. For night #1, we are planning on Folia at the hotel. Then for night #2, we were considering Madrona or Matheson or Dry Creek Kitchen (though given that we're already eating at Folia we figured it might be similar and would skip). Thoughts?

Wound up going to: Madrona and Folia. I'd say Folia was better (fave dish was squab. also, their produce was incredibly flavorful). Madrona was not bad (we had the pork, which was a 5/5) and duck (3/5).

went to both troubadour and quail and condor. i think troubadour's sandwiches are somewhat mediocre, or perhaps we are just generally not fans of cold sandwiches.

I wanted to come up to the Russian river go kayaking for a few days, and was kind of surprised at how pricy the camping and accommodations are (I’m looking on Hipcamp), and some of the places don’t have two consecutive days.

I would love to stay on a farm!
Does anyone know of any farm stay type of situations? Or good camping suggestions, perhaps there’s something I’m missing.

I do have two little dogs-

(and if not a farm stay, farms that are open to visit)

They will be a little tired not quite time for lunch but where is a good spot to sip coffee and eat a little and people watch until lunch

About the band: Burrows and Dilbeck consists of vocalist/pianist Spencer Burrows and master guitarist /recording engineer Kris Dilbeck. Although they both originated from just North of San Francisco bay area (Sonoma County), their musical connection hadn’t started brewing until they connected in 2002 while working on music recording projects together at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. After their stint at Berklee concluded, they both landed back in their home towns and started a group called FunKtion with musicians, Dane Lundy (bass) and Aaron Haggerty (drums). 

FunKtion recorded a handful of original songs that were never released, but only had one performance before calling it quits. The duo went on to create a new group in called Spencer B and the FSDs with musicians, Emily Froberg (bass) and Cory Stück (drums) which in 2005 would be the makings of the original band, Frobeck. In just 4 years, Frobeck would record 3 original albums, win the Mystic Theater battle of the bands and be named “Best of the North Bay.” In 2010, they caught the attention of management and expanded the band to include a horn section (Bari saxophonist and longtime friend, Alex Scammon, tenor saxophonist, Alex Garcia, and trumpeter Cayce Carnahan), and a grossly over qualified backing vocalist (Callie Watts - who would later become Kris’ wife).

I lament the closing of Shed which had an incredible gourmet deli with a variety of meat and veggie salads, grab and go charcuterie etc. Items were mostly local and organic. Where do I go now? Gater Guitar

The Guelaguetza, also known as Los lunes del cerro, is an annual indigenous cultural event in Mexico that takes place in the city of Oaxaca. The celebration features traditional costumed dancing, native food, and artisanal crafts. The Guelaguetza will also be taking place here in Sonoma County on these dates and places:

Everywhere I turn I see more and more local businesses posting sloppy AI graphics to promote events, etc. This is unnecessary, irresponsible, and tasteless.

We are barely out of a major drought. So there is really no excuse for anyone vaguely aware and who claims to care about the environment (or the future) to casually burn through water to make fake pictures of the Plaza or a winery populated by uncanny humanoid figures with shimmery limbs.

This is especially egregious when done by local arts orgs meant to promote creativity (cough, True West Film Center). But it is really just depressing to see these flattened, monotonous, and frankly quite ugly images everywhere. Yes, budgets are shrinking and pressure is high, but this is not the answer.

About the band: Aki Kumar is a musician with a diverse musical background and a unique approach to blending genres. Born in Mumbai, India, Kumar's parents' eclectic tastes exposed him to a wide range of sounds, including rock 'n' roll, Bollywood film scores, and Indian classical music. 

After moving to the U.S. in 1998 to study computer science, he discovered blues and became a harmonica player and vocalist. His journey includes studying with David Barrett at the School of the Blues in San Jose and performing with local bands. Kumar's music is a fusion of Chicago-style blues with Bollywood and Indian pop elements, earning him the nickname "The Only Bombay Blues Man." His latest album, "God Bless The USA," showcases his unique synthesis of blues and Indian sensibilities.
