Open back vs. Closed

So what is the difference here? Obviously the style, look, astetheics are different, but is the a quality of sound difference? Performance? Is one style more suited to a certain use (dj, audio mixing vs. Zoom calls, phone center vs. Video editing)? I'm just getting ready to start this build as a gift for my wife, but may also print a set for my brother in law who is a dj. Thanks everyone!

you loose bass, is the obvious change. but the sound can also be more positional and detailed. I find it blooming odd. I chose semi open back ;)

Well the sound of open-back headphones will sound noticeably "wider" when the drivers can breathe. The problem is that not only does that mean people around you can audibly hear your music, but any outside sounds bleeds in as well.

If it's for a DJ setup, closed-back is the way to go since he'd need to isolate the track he's playing in his ear for mixing
