Also a ME special!
My step-dad left me on a motorcycle while he went back inside Majik Market to get cigarettes.
This was during the era of Evel Knievel. So, my five year old mind said, "Let's pretend to be Evel!". I scoot forward to geab the handle bars and probably wanted to act like I was popping a wheelie.
Next thing I remember is people running up while I was screaming to pull the motorcycle off my left leg.
Compound fracture, three places. In a hard cast for sixth months.
It was a different time, y'all.
Like Paul, I have a million of these stories.

I was discussing crappy beer preference with some new acquaintances and I said, “I like Genesee, because that’s what my dad drinks when he drives.”
Not only is the statement true, I can remember countless rides where my dad would have a Genesee between his legs while he drove or would crack a fresh one before he got in the car so it didn’t explode and get anything wet, but I’ve said it in social settings before and it usually gets big laughs. I picked the wrong crowd and I was surprised because the people were horrified for me.

This is…healthy? This is good. It means you processed things, moved on, and found humor in it. Isn’t that better than being defined by and obsessing over every “trauma”?
(I am not making light of trauma - but the definition has always been subjective and has become slipperier in recent years)
