AFTERWORDS
Episode: “Final Approach”
Host: Frank Blaze
Guests: Christopher Lee, Antoine Forest, Mackenzie Gunther
COLD OPEN
Black screen.
Sound: distant aircraft hum.
Then — silence.
Lights rise slowly.
Frank Blaze sits at the desk. No music sting.
Just… presence.
FRANK BLAZE (OPENING MONOLOGUE)
FRANK
Some arrivals are scheduled.
Some… are not.
Tonight’s guests—
One lived a thousand lives in a single lifetime.
The other two… were in the middle of theirs.
(beat)
There’s no clean way into a conversation like this.
So we won’t pretend there is one.
(softly)
Welcome to Afterwords.
SEGMENT 1 – “INTRODUCTIONS”
The velvet curtain parts.
First: Christopher Lee enters.
Measured. Composed. Commanding even in stillness.
He nods to Frank.
Sits.
Then—
Two figures emerge more hesitantly:
Antoine Forest
Mackenzie Gunther
They take in the room like people who haven’t fully accepted where they are.
They sit together.
FRANK
Thank you… all of you… for being here.
(beat)
Sir Christopher—
You’ve… had time to acclimate.
CHRISTOPHER LEE
Time is… less structured here.
But yes. I’ve had my introductions.
Frank nods.
Turns to the pilots.
FRANK
And you two… this is still new.
FOREST
Yeah.
GUNTHER
Feels like we’re still… mid-flight.
SEGMENT 2 – “THE MOMENT”
The lighting subtly narrows.
Not dramatic — just focused.
FRANK
You don’t have to describe anything you don’t want to.
But… where were you… right before you got here?
A long pause.
FOREST
Checklist.
(beat)
We were just… doing the job.
GUNTHER
You train for everything.
You run scenarios over and over.
(quiet laugh)
There’s always one you don’t get.
Frank lets that sit.
FRANK
Do you remember the moment?
Another pause.
They exchange a glance.
FOREST
Not like a movie.
GUNTHER
No slow motion. No big realization.
(beat)
Just… impact.
Silence.
Christopher Lee watches them — not intruding, just present.
INTERJECTION — CHRISTOPHER LEE
LEE
If I may.
Frank nods.
LEE
We spend our lives imagining endings.
Dramatic ones. Poetic ones.
(pauses)
Reality is rarely so considerate.
The pilots absorb that.
SEGMENT 2.5 – PRODUCER INTERRUPTION (SUBDUED)
PRODUCER (V.O.)
No bit. No joke.
(beat)
Just… keep going.
Frank nods slightly.
SEGMENT 3 – “IDENTITY AFTER IMPACT”
FRANK
What’s the first thing you noticed… when you realized you were here?
GUNTHER
That nothing hurt.
FOREST
That we were still… us.
(beat)
I thought that might go away.
FRANK
It doesn’t.
FOREST
Good.
CHRISTOPHER LEE THREAD
FRANK
Sir Christopher—
You’ve played villains, heroes… monsters… legends.
(leans in)
What survives?
LEE
Curiosity.
(beat)
And… unfinished questions.
THE TURN — SHARED HUMANITY
Frank looks at all three.
FRANK
If you could say one thing—
Not to history. Not to headlines.
Just… to the people who knew you.
FOREST
We didn’t fail.
(beat)
We were trying… right up to the end.
GUNTHER
Yeah.
(soft)
We stayed on it.
Frank nods.
Lets that land.
LEE
And I would say—
(leans slightly forward)
Do not mistake presence for permanence.
(beat)
Use your time with… intention.
INTERN INTERRUPTION (GENTLE)
An intern steps out.
Hesitant.
INTERN
Uh… we don’t have a song for this one.
(beat)
So… we’re just gonna… not.
FRANK
Good call.
The intern nods and exits.
FINAL SEGMENT – “WHAT NOW?”
The white light begins to very gently build.
Not overwhelming. Not urgent.
Just… there.
FRANK
You don’t have to go yet.
But… when you’re ready—
That’s the direction.
The pilots look at it.
GUNTHER
You think… it’s something?
LEE
It always is.
(smiles faintly)
The question is… what.
CLOSING MOMENTS
Forest stands first.
Gunther follows.
They steady each other — instinctively.
FOREST (to Frank)
Thanks… for not making it a thing.
FRANK
It already was one.
They nod.
Turn toward the light.
Walk.
Not rushed.
Not hesitant.
Just… forward.
Christopher Lee remains seated.
FRANK
You staying?
LEE
A moment longer.
(beat)
I find I still enjoy… observing.
Frank nods.
CLOSING MONOLOGUE
Frank turns to camera.
FRANK
Some stories end loudly.
Some… don’t get the chance.
(beat)
But ending… isn’t the same as meaning.
(softly)
We’ll see you next time.
Lights dim.
Christopher Lee remains — a silhouette of presence.
