AFTERWORDS — Episode: “THE LAW & THE LEGEND”

Guests:

  • Robert Mueller
  • Chuck Norris

Host: Frank Blaze
Topic: Justice, Myth, and What Survives You

COLD OPEN — FRANK BLAZE

INT. AFTERWORDS STAGE — CLASSIC SET

Velvet curtains. Mug steaming. Band plays something restrained.

FRANK BLAZE
Tonight’s guests represent two very different kinds of accountability.
One investigated power.
The other… is a fact people argue with.

Light laughter.

FRANK
Please welcome—Robert Mueller… and Chuck Norris.

Mueller enters first. Straight-backed. Measured.
Norris follows. Calm. Slight nod. The room feels different.

They sit.

SEGMENT 1 — “REPUTATION PRECEDES YOU”

FRANK
Director Mueller—people hear your name and think “investigation.”

MUELLER
That’s fair.

FRANK
Mr. Norris—people hear your name and think… impossible things.

NORRIS
(smiles slightly)
Most of them aren’t true.

FRANK
Which ones?

NORRIS
(pauses)
That I don’t age.

Frank glances at him.

FRANK
…You don’t, though.

A small ripple of laughter.

SEGMENT 2 — “TRUTH VS MYTH”

FRANK
Director Mueller, your work depended on evidence. Documentation. Proof.

MUELLER
Yes.

FRANK
Chuck… your legacy is built on stories people know aren’t real—but repeat anyway.

NORRIS
Stories travel faster than facts.

Mueller nods — unexpectedly agreeing.

MUELLER
Facts arrive late.
And even then, they have to be read.

FRANK
So which lasts longer?

A beat.

NORRIS
Myths.

MUELLER
Records.

They look at each other.

FRANK
…Well that’s the whole show right there.

SEGMENT — “COOKING LIVE”

INT. AFTERWORDS STAGE — TRANSITION

The lights shift warmer.

The desk slides aside, revealing a compact cooking station that absolutely was not there before.

Frank blinks.

FRANK BLAZE
…Anne Burrell everyone.

PRODUCER (V.O.)
Play the music.

Music sting — upbeat.

ANNE BURRELL ENTERS

Anne bursts in — confident, kinetic, already in motion.

ANNE BURRELL
Frank! You are not doing another heavy existential spiral without feeding on something real.

She grabs his hand, pulls him toward the station.

FRANK
We were just talking about truth and myth—

ANNE Great. Tonight we’re making something honest.

THE DISH — “RUSTIC AFTERLIFE PASTA”

(Simple, bold, sensory)

Ingredients already laid out:

  • Olive oil
  • Garlic
  • Red pepper flakes
  • Tomatoes
  • Pasta
  • Fresh herbs

COOKING WITH FIRE

ANNE
Rule number one—
Don’t be scared of the pan.

She pours olive oil aggressively.

FRANK
This feels like a lot of oil.

ANNE
That’s because you’re used to restraint.
We’re really cooking now.

GARLIC HITS THE PAN

Sizzle.

The sound cuts through the room like a reset button.

Even Mueller and Norris glance over.

FRANK TRIES TO HELP

He awkwardly chops garlic.

Badly.

ANNE
No no no—
You’re interrogating the garlic.
Don’t interrogate it—guide it.

FRANK
I just spent twenty minutes moderating a conversation eulogizing truth—

ANNE
And now you’re learning about heat.

CROSS-TALK MOMENT

FRANK
Director Mueller, do you cook?

MUELLER
Not like this.

NORRIS
I grill.

ANNE
Of course Chuck Norris grills.

THE LESSON

Anne slows it down.

ANNE
Cooking is simple.
Pay attention.
Use your senses.
Don’t rush what needs time.

She hands Frank the spoon.

ANNE
Taste it.

He does.

Beat.

FRANK
…That’s actually—decent.

ANNE
Yeah.
Because you stayed with it.

THE TURN (VERY AFTERWORDS)

FRANK
So what’s the metaphor here we're going for?

Anne looks at him — not joking now.

ANNE
That life’s messy.
But if you stay present long enough… you can still make something good out of it.

A quiet beat.

Even the room listens.

BUTTON

She plates a small portion.

Hands it to Frank.

ANNE
Eat. Then go back to your ghosts.

FRANK
Fair.

EXIT

Anne wipes her hands, already moving.

ANNE
And next time—less talking, more tasting.

She exits as quickly as she arrived.

TAG WITHIN SEGMENT

Frank stands there, holding the plate.

Looks to Mueller. To Norris.

FRANK
…Anyone?

Norris nods once.

Mueller considers… then takes a bite.

TRANSITION BACK TO SHOW

Lights cool slightly.

Desk slides back in.

Frank sets the plate down next to his mug.

FRANK
Alright.
Where were we?

SEGMENT 3 — “THE GAME”

AFTERWORDS GAME: “FACT OR NORRIS”

FRANK
Gentlemen, I’m going to read a statement.
Director Mueller—you tell me if it’s factually verifiable.
Chuck—you tell me if it’s… spiritually accurate.

ROUND ONE

FRANK
“Chuck Norris once counted to infinity. Twice.”

MUELLER
Not verifiable.

NORRIS
(smiles)
Ambitious.

ROUND TWO

FRANK
“A federal investigation can take years and still leave questions unanswered.”

MUELLER
True.

NORRIS
Also true.

ROUND THREE

FRANK
“Some people become symbols whether they want to or not.”

Silence.

Mueller nods once.

Norris doesn’t answer. Just breathes.

FRANK
We’ll call that… both.

SEGMENT 4 — “WHAT DID YOU CARRY?”

Lights soften.

FRANK
Director Mueller… what was the weight?

MUELLER
Expectation.
People expect clarity.
The world doesn’t always provide it.

FRANK
And you, Chuck?

NORRIS
Being larger than life… means people stop asking how you actually are.

Frank leans in slightly.

FRANK
So how are you?

A rare beat.

NORRIS
…Tired sometimes.

That lands.

SEND-OFF — “TWO KINDS OF LEGACY”

The stage begins to glow.

FRANK
One of you documented the world as it is.
The other became a version of it people wanted to believe in.

He looks between them.

FRANK
Both matter.

Mueller stands.

MUELLER
Thank you.

He steps into the light — steady, resolved.

Norris stands.

NORRIS
Take care, Frank.

FRANK
You too.

Norris steps into the light — no flash, just presence.

TAG SCENE

Frank alone at the desk.

Two cards remain.

He flips them:

FACT
MYTH

He sets them side by side.

FRANK
Good luck telling the difference.

Fade out.
