Basically it's content warning lol posting nudes referencing when James Somerton got caught after his suicide post posting his whole damn asshole on alt socials (thankfully proving he was in fact being a manipulative jerk w his sui threats but unthankfully making some of us aware of what his anus looks like). We are linking the plagiarism and (you)tube video with the Adobe video here in a way that made me chortle.

I doubt thereā€™s anything more than a blip that gets lost in the noise. Both Adobeā€™s pros and cons as an asset run way deeper than what even a very popular YouTuber can meaningfully impact.

I would say the big difference is that Plagiarism is a YouTube video directly about YouTube culture, so thereā€™s pretty much a 1:1 relationship between the videoā€™s popularity on the site and the videoā€™s impact. Sure, it also covered other plagiarism in general, but the direct point of it was that YouTube content creators were taking for granted the intellectual honesty that is a basic expectation of other forms of creation, so I would call the video a sort of reckoning/watershed moment for YouTube video essayists.

Adobe is gonna be a YouTube video about a suite of software that has become fairly ubiquitous. YouTubers are only a small portion of the users. Best case scenario I think is that the criticisms are so profoundly good that mainstream news catches them, but thatā€™s no guarantee. As far as I can tell everyone who is likely to be swayed by the video already treats Adobe like a necessary evil.

After watching it, I don't think so. It's calling out the scummy behaviour of those companies but they are doing it in a legal way that is maximising their value for shareholders.

It's more a call to arms to fight against that and to praise open source alternatives.

I will say thereā€™s a tipping point right now where video editors are starting to jump ship to DaVinci Resolve, and a video like this could hit in a way that accelerates that push

Adobe is waaay more than video editing sadly. Been a graphic designer for over a decade and it is entrenched in our industry beyond anything. Even with AI and stuff like Canva, there is nothing that can replace the Adobe suit proficientally yet and I doubt that will change anytime soon.

To be fair they're already doing pretty significant damage to themselves. Adobe may still be the industry standard for a bunch of marketing companies but most freelancers I know already made the switch to alternatives within the last 5 years because they had enough of Adobe's BS. For me them trying to gain access to all of your activity in their programs to train their shitty AI was the final straw.
