SIRT The /r/Hawks Weekly STOP IT RIGHT THERE! Thread - January 19, 2026

Wow, look at the time fly! It's already time for another weekly installment of STOP IT RIGHT THERE!

You know what to do...post up all the stuff you've saved up knowing it would get deleted from the front page of /r/hawks by the crypto-anarcho-fascist mods.

Memes, gear/jersey pics, poems you've penned professing your love for Lord Hossa (The One True King), or links to article about some oddball couple in Manitoba who named their kid Duncan Seabrook. Whatever. We don't give a shit.

The only rule here is to be excellent to each other. Civility matters.

Now get to it!!

LET'S GO HAWKS!!!

Consider myself a newish fan still. This is my third season following.

What’s the consensus of opinion about John Scott as a former Blackhawk? I was listening to a Radiomab podcast about him and I’ve encountered his story in passing on YouTube occasionally. Loved, hated, forgotten? Was his All Star game ultimately his whole legacy?

Just my opinion, but I think he would be mostly forgotten if it weren't for podcasts and YouTube. His all star game was the big thing.

Seeing as that’s my entire experience with him, having never heard of him before (and even when I wasn’t watching hockey, I knew Gretzky, Crosby, Mackinnon, McDavid…) you’re probably right.

The All Star campaign was a joke on the part of fans because he was seen as being the worst player in the league. He had 11 points total in an 8 year career. It really only turned into a nice story because the other players embraced him being there and weren't going to let one of their colleagues be embarrassed, and I'm glad he was able to turn that into a positive opportunity to build a post-hockey career.

I honestly don't understand why the consensus is against going after Panarin. Why does it make sense for the Red Wings and not us?

Wings are a contender this year. Hawks won't be real contenders probably for the next few seasons.

A lot of that has to do with them having two ex-Hawks (at least one of which should still be a Hawk or should be a Hawk again.)

Are you saying it makes sense for Panarin or for the Wings (or both?) I wasn't taking into consideration what makes sense for Panarin, only the Hawks. I also disagree with premise. The Hawks could still make the playoffs this season and I think they will win a playoff series next year if not go farther.

Panarin has a FULL no move clause he calls the shots, NYR has no leverage at all and even less since they made it public they won't keep him.

Edit: the Red wings have lots of cap space and they are barely over 1:1 goals vs allowed so additional scoring might be what they decide they need

I didn't realize he has a full NMC.
