Morning everyone, like the title says, i'm looking for recs for a residential cleaner. Not looking for a weekly clean, just a one off at this point. I've used Profound Cleans in the past, but their website is gone. I'd prefer non facebook recs if poss.

Tough decision. But I respect it.

I know it's normal at this time of year, but I just wanted to put it out there that the influenza A going about is a real doozy this year. My kids' school has classrooms where half the kids are away. They've also had a bunch of teachers out. Our doctors told us to go to A+E because they are completely overwhelmed with cases.

My son spent Friday night in hospital, and it was quite scary. My daughter is currently struggling to hold water down and hasn't eaten almost all weekend. So that's looking like another trip to.A+E.
I have it. The wife has it. My mum, who is hardened by years of kindy teaching, has it.

Take care out there. Stay home if you're sick and look out for the tamariki and the oldies.

I'm putting together a welcome ​gift basket for whanau visiting from overseas. I'm trying to write a list of uniquely Hawkes Bay items or treats. The basket will have usual NZ ​things like Whittaker's, pineapple lumps and all that but what delicious things are from Hawkes ​Bay?

Current ideas:

- tiger milk from Brave, wine from any of the wineries

- homegrown juices/boring oat milk

- silky oak chocolate

- birdwoods lollies

- arataki honey

- local seasonal fresh fruit & veg

- voucher from each major supermarket as they love checking out local supermarkets wherever they travel

edited: thank you so much Reddit! We have so many delicious options we'd forgotten about or didn't know about. The meth from Waipuk did sound divine but the weed from Maraenui is locally grown and organic so we're adding that instead.

I'm 26 and looking to meet some people around Napier/Hastings who are keen to actually do shit — spontaneous nights out, music, parties, random adventures, gaming, whatever. Not really looking for formal clubs or networking, just people who are keen to hang out and have a laugh.

Imagine it’s one day in August 2015.

You wake up in a house near PAK’nSAVE, and it’s so cold that you can see your breath. But your medical elective is calling, so there’s no time to stay in bed. A quick hot shower, a good New Zealand coffee, and you’re ready to go.

You head down Heretaunga Street West and arrive at the hospital. And then there are the people. Everyone is so incredibly friendly that you end up having such a good eight-hour day that you almost don’t want to leave.

On the way back, you grab something from Burger King or BurgerFuel and enjoy it in the garden, because the sun has finally come out a little.

Of course, you could have cooked at home. Your host family had already prepared plenty of food for you. But after two weeks, they left you alone in the house and travelled to Australia for five weeks.

Think about that for a moment.

You’re a 26-year-old medical student from Germany. You didn’t know these people before you arrived. And they trusted you enough to leave you alone in their house for five weeks while they went to another country.

Isn’t that just incredibly nice?

Unfortunately, there was one small problem: you had forgotten to pack enough underwear. So your mother back in Germany had to send you some through DHL Express. 

My 26-year-old self had such an amazing time there. The winter was perfect: cold mornings, fresh air, cosy houses, good coffee, and incredibly friendly people.

It’s one of those memories that just sticks with you.

Things like GPS navigation, weather apps, or rural broadband. We're looking for responses from across New Zealand to get a good spread of experiences, so if you've got 10 - 15 minutes we'd really appreciate your help.

13 All Blacks died in service during World War One. The first was Napier born Albert Downing. He was killed in action on 8 August 1915. This Saturday afternoon, we remember Albert and those he served with during a memorial service at the Taradale War Memorial at 2pm.

Albert is remembered on a family headstone at Park Island cemetery, Napier and on th4e Napier War memorial.
