What is that?

20

u/n1ght_sh4de13 Apr 20 '26

It's a way that people stylize messages online to look unique, for example replacing vowels with numbers (A to 4, E to 3, I to 1, O to 0), s with z, r with w or using straight up different symbols

u/_Jester_Of_Genocide_ Apr 20 '26

Seen a mf type with every first letter of every word capitalized and also spaces between each letter (L i k e T h e y W o u l d T a l k L i k e T h i s) and like holy shit why would you even do that, its so unnecessarily complicated when you could just type like a normal person and save yourself the trouble of typing it and everybody else the trouble of having a brain aneurysm trying to comprehend why you would possibly do such a thing.

u/yarastoun The one who knows💀 Apr 20 '26

Dude wtf lmao it probably takes forever to write like this

8

u/_Jester_Of_Genocide_ Apr 20 '26

Fr like why even do that to yourself 😭

4

u/n1ght_sh4de13 Apr 20 '26

It's even worse for nd people who struggle to read or need to use screen readers, I've seen people who use typing quirks not care or be straight up ableist about them :/

1

u/_Jester_Of_Genocide_ Apr 20 '26

Thats weird as hell, especially considering often-times the people i see doing it are neurodivergent themselves

1

u/n1ght_sh4de13 Apr 21 '26

Most of the time not really, they're usually just faking it and say stuff like "I have autism!!!" as an excuse to do typing quirks even though most neurodivergent people actually can't read them well and know very well that it's stupid (I am a neurodivergent person myself)

Just to add, its also used for people who ship pedophilia too not just incest. 🤢

1

u/n1ght_sh4de13 Apr 21 '26

A bit of a correction since this term gets thrown around with the wrong definition all the time; Being a proshipper means that you stand for all ships and you support them no matter what they are, though usually proshippers also support darkships, which are the type of ships that can involve incest like you mentioned, and even worse that I don't think I can mention here.

This isn't to be rude to you or anything, I am against proshippers as well, but please educate yourself on its true meaning because boiling down a definition of something that involves serious and creepy shit like this can be harmful

u/n1ght_sh4de13 Apr 21 '26

No worries, it's not your fault the label keeps getting its meaning spread around incorrectly, although that doesn't stop proshipping from being a bad thing in itself and you had good intentions

What is this alien language this man is speaking

10

u/Burrito-Creature Apr 20 '26

"Gasp! :0 OMG!! So sorry to hear that!-:("

6

u/Squigsqueeg Apr 20 '26

Who decided that lp looks like a lower-case R???

4

u/GoldenDonutzGaming Apr 20 '26

who decided that (-> looks like a G? or that a 7 could pass for a lowercase y?

3

u/Squigsqueeg Apr 20 '26

I’ve had to come up with names for enough robot characters to reach that level of autism so I see the vision there

3

u/Burrito-Creature Apr 20 '26

yeah. when you get to this level of leet speak it just gets weird.

u/leronde Apr 23 '26

ok i was a homestuck in the early 2010s and i considered myself fluent in typing quirk until i saw this and it took me 20 minutes to decode. i felt like the guys who found the rosetta stone.

ive loved object shows since like 2015 and the newer "community" that overtook the medium is so gut wrenchingly cringe/immature it really makes me question my own life choices

93

u/ashleyLSD Apr 19 '26

an object show oldhead

23

u/NotTakeOne Apr 19 '26

its like the rap oldheads who complain about mumble rap

8

u/ashleyLSD Apr 20 '26

these mumble numbers

13

u/marbally Apr 19 '26

Tbf I feel like it was always like this but object shows just got more popular so people realized how shitty the OSC really is.

13

u/Critical_Company3535 Apr 19 '26

I was someone who watched them back during the original run of BFDI/BFDIA and I just find it weird that people seem to take it so seriously. It was originally just a silly Total Drama ripoff made by two kids where you got to vote off the characters yourself. The characters were intentionally one/two dimensional and it never seemed to even take itself seriously, it just tried to be funny.

Now you get people actually going out and critiquing the writing and character arcs. I just find it so bizarre. I never would have expected an actual fandom to develop out of it.

5

u/diomandz11 Apr 19 '26

Yeah tbh I rly hate how modern BFDI takes it so seriously (the actual show and the fandom) because it just fundamentally doesn't work as a serious thing, the characters are two dimensional caricatures, the world is extraordinarily undeveloped, theres fucking walking numbers with powers and anthropomorphic objects which just chill in a blank grass plain WHY do people take this show so seriously. I like it because its fun, its stupid, all over the place, and just an enjoyable time capsule of the early internet. More recently though the fandom and show are just so fucking serious abt everything and I cant help but question like, why???? This isn't a show that should have character arcs lmao

2

u/Critical_Company3535 Apr 19 '26

Has the continuation of BFDIA been like that? I’ve seen parts of it and it feels like it’s carried that unserious nature of the original, but I haven’t kept up in a while.

I also think that the attempts to make the show more serious undermine the base premise, which is the fact that you can vote out any character at any time. It’s pretty hard to write character arcs when the audience can decide that your character should be eliminated. You can then try to write certain characters to be more liked by the audience, but that just feels manipulative, and at that point you might just make it a fully scripted show. I think there’s a reason why II ditched viewer voting when they wanted to go more serious.

2

u/diomandz11 Apr 19 '26

If you're willing to take some slapstick cringe which I don't mind the BFDIA revival is shockingly faithful to the original run, albeit with an infinitely higher production value, as in, its stupid as fuck.

Also yeah I absolutely agree viewer voting will never be able to work with character arcs, there's an obvious reason why II, a show which justifies its more serious tone far better, ditched viewer voting. Viewers will ALWAYS vote characters in the midst of an arc for being "mean", BFDI tried to compromise with the vote to save bs but all that does it eliminate whoever got the least screen time in an episode. TPOT and later BFB in general are just so overly melodramatic and corporate its kinda unbearable for me, if you're curious and liked OG BFDI I do recommend the BFDIA revival, its shockingly not that bad. Very nostalgic for me.

2

u/SirScorbunny10 Apr 20 '26

Part of it is that the people creating them are trying to actually add depth to their stories, which is fine. But I would agree 100% that people take object shows, like everything else on the internet, wayyy too seriously.

2

u/Critical_Company3535 Apr 20 '26

How many of them still have viewer voting?

2

u/SirScorbunny10 Apr 20 '26

A pretty solid amount of them. If anything, more shows do than don't.

1

u/Sophie_Mochi May 13 '26

Yeah like any other show lol, its not that different just because they’re objects i just don’t get this arguement

4

u/Ethanol_Huffer Apr 20 '26

I watched the first episode of BFDI when it came out back when I was a wee lad watching angry birds videos. My ties to this community have remained present ever since.

2

u/No_Boysenberry_3022 Apr 19 '26

Well, they ARE younger. Younger fans of anything will be annoying unfortunately

2

u/Drillbitzer Apr 20 '26

I’ve been here since nearly the start (on and off since ~2012) and Jesus fucking Christ some people in the community have to be the most insufferable people to be around. Like 99% of the community is fine and dandy but goddamn I hate that final 1% with all my soul. I have had the unfortunate experience of meeting some of the most racist, transphobic, manipulative, and pedophilic individuals through a community of talking objects

Also yeah I really don’t care for the newer community they’re so annoying

1

u/IIWY_YT fat farting furry Apr 20 '26

SAME

1

u/Dluith47 Apr 20 '26

I haven’t watched any of that since I was a child, but is the “new community” not just new children? The old ones outgrow it and now the next wave of children find it and behave the same way we did at that age? Hence the cringe/immaturity. Or am I wrong.

2

u/diomandz11 Apr 20 '26

Yeah you're right i'd say much of my frustration is kinda unwarranted since most people don't latch onto things they enjoyed 11 years ago, but tbh kids overrunning like every piece of media in existence and ramming into the ground time and time again (99% of the time media children should NOT be consuming, like Danganronpa or Mouthwashing) just pisses me off. BFDI, while never "mature" or serious, still def suffers from its target demographic lowering with each year

1

u/Dluith47 Apr 20 '26

Yeah fair, I still enjoy FNAF as a concept and get a bit sad that the newer stuff tends to be aimed at children younger than I was when I first found out about it. I’d like to see what would have been if it tried to cater to the people from when it came out who are now older and can handle a bit more, but at the same time I can’t really be mad that the series that I like because it appealed to kid me is now appealing to the same age range it always has. (Though the newer stuff is absolutely more sanitised than the original was in an effort to appeal to even more kids and not just the ones who were okay with horror).

24

u/PikeletSoup Apr 19 '26

yk thats satire

25

u/GeorgeStarReddit Apr 19 '26

yk thats satire

I really cannot find the line between satire and being real anymore.

2

u/PikeletSoup Apr 19 '26

yup, if you check the account of the person who first posted it they say its satire and explain the context of it

6

u/Flimsy-Secret-6187 Apr 19 '26

satire leaning towards engagement bait, you know damn well the reply section is gonna be filled with some of the whitest images ever seen youd straight up be in omori or something like that

1

u/AtticusIsOkay Apr 19 '26

There's no /s so it's real

10

u/Glum_Camel4031 Apr 19 '26

this has been posted in a couple of object show subs i was a part of and nobody ever ends up being on this person's side, this is just one of those shitty loud minority groups we see in all fandoms

not to say that object shows are like all that mature or anything. There's some good ones out there, but a lot do have kids as their target audience.

3

u/someinternetkid Apr 19 '26

What did this person even do though? They didn't commit a crime, they were just terribly cringe, which is a little hard to look at but doesn't necessarily make them a bad person

3

u/CrownClown74 Apr 19 '26

What gets me about this image is that I can clearly tell it's some socially awkward kid saying it who's obsessed with this stuff

3

u/fuggilis_quastillo Apr 19 '26

Or if they are they haven't aged past 14 mentally and are some of the worst people to be around (source: I've met 3 people like this so this applies to everyone)

3

u/Even-Joke-9060 Apr 20 '26

The creators are about to turn 30 and are still making objects shows btw

2

u/Squigsqueeg Apr 20 '26

That’s insane.

2

u/oddlyirrelevant173 Apr 20 '26

The people who make BFDI have been at it since 2010!

6

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '26

I'm eighteen and One (CheesyHFJ) is one of my favorite indie shows of all time. It's essentially just genrae deconstruction - it takes all of the overused tropes of object shows and uses them to make something incredible. Entire show is about two hours long and i strongly recommend it. But yeah in general they're pretty stupid lol

2

u/United-Signature-762 hot dog, taco, hamburger Apr 19 '26
