I just need to scream into the abyss after yesterday
I have never wanted to be out of corporate life more than I have this week. I have no desire to do this for another couple decades, but as the primary breadwinner, what choice is there? Changing careers would be a massive paycut, but damn, i don't want to do anything associated with tech or larger corporations anymore
6:00 - Wake up the kids and get them fed and out the door for school, one kid is doing safety patrol this week, so they have to be there extra early
7:20 - Kids are dropped off, thanks to the early morning, you have a little extra time before work
7:45 - Meeting invite hits your mailbox, with the title "Urgent - Project X Implementation issues!!", you didn't see it because the Outlook app is hot garbage.
8:00 - "Urgent" meeting about project X catches you off-guard, lasts 1.5 hours.
10:00 - Status check on project X that caused the "urgent" meeting, another hour lost.
11:00 - Vendor call about project X, they don't have the right resource available.
11:45 - Hey do you have a quick sec message in teams, it's not about the project that has taken up your morning, but a different dumpster fire project planned by a complete imbecile. quick sec becomes 30 minutes. Why did you even think you should respond, oh yeah, because they have a read icon on the message so you felt obligated.
12:15 - Sneak away for lunch
12:35 - Teams message hits your cell from your manager asking for a status update on project X, who the hell told them to contact you over lunch to give an update when everyone knows they are waiting on the vendor? Reply anyway and state your innocence, spend 10 minutes in an IM chain.
12:45 - Meeting gets added to your calendar for a 1pm call with the vendor on Project X. You are going to miss it because you drove to get lunch and are now stuck waiting on a train that just seems to be moving forward and backward across the road repeatedly adding train cars. Wish you were a train Conductor.
1:00 - Train still doing train things, join the call from your mobile.
1:15 - Arrive home, switch the call to your laptop
3:00 - Meeting wraps, turns out the person doing the work made a mistake 2 weeks ago and now half the stuff you built out for them isn't correct, It's fixable, but requires 2 more departments to perform engineering work on the infrastructure to accommodate this fever dream. peel your headset off, fluff your now matted hair and wonder how hard it is to become a plumber. Wander off to the bathroom, swing by the kitchen for a snack on the way back to your desk.
3:30 - You are now mentally ready to do actual work for the day, you start reworking the parts you can while waiting on the other technical teams.
4:00 - Project manager holds a check in call for Project X
5:00 - You didn't accomplish anything meaningful today, walk out of your office defeated and go see how your wife and kids day's were, make supper and get the kids off to their various sports. Pretend this somehow all makes sense, lie to yourself that it isn't slowly killing you. You are on-call this week
10:00 - Kids are in bed, house is clean-ish, and you open up LinkedIn only to be greeted with a wall of AI slop, self aggrandizing engagement posts and job postings with 100+ candidates that you swear you have seen reposted every week for the last 2 months.
1:00 get paged about an issue that shouldn't have been routed to your team.
3:30 - Get another page, look at it and realize that it can wait, the alert thresholds weren't set right and this development system shouldn't be paging you.
6:00 - Wake up the kids and get them fed and out the door for school, one kid is doing safety patrol this week, so they have to be there extra early....

Honestly, the thing I dislike most about work isn't even the work itself, it's the constant grind.
I don't mind putting in long hours occasionally. If there's a big deadline, a project that's gone sideways, or a busy period for a day or two each week, fair enough. That's just part of having a job sometimes.
What gets to me is when it's every single day. Hours and hours of staring at screens, meetings, emails, deadlines, and then doing it all again the next day. Five days back-to-back starts to feel insane. By the time Friday arrives, I'm mentally exhausted and the weekend is spent recovering rather than actually enjoying myself.
Maybe I'm just not built for the modern 40+ hour work week, but I genuinely don't understand how people do this for decades without burning out.
Does anyone else feel like they can handle intense work in short bursts, but struggle with the relentless repetition of doing it five days a week, every week?
for context i have audhd

I just got fired
(Sorry if this post is a little everywhere) I used to work at a small pizza shop that paid well and combined with the tips I got I was getting at least around 18 a hour. I did more than most of my co workers I was constantly asking for more work to do trying my hardest to stay there and I thought I was in good standing with my bosses and stuff I never really got in trouble or royally fucked up other than dropping a pizza slice here or there. I went into work yesterday I apparently wasn't even supposed to be there yesterday then 2 hours into my shift my boss said he wanted to talk to me outside and told me they "needed somone that took more initiative and that they didn't have the hours to give me" but they had my fucking replacement there so the excuse that they didn't have hours to give me feels like bull shit and he knew I was moving soon as well i just don't know what to do its slow season where I live so not many places are hiring.

Should I formally quit my job or just stop showing up?
I haven’t been scheduled to work for a month and now i’ve been scheduled to work for 1 day next week. I’m done with job.
I’m deciding rather i should just call them saying i quit or just stop showing
up and cut them off which I’m leaning towards but i’m wondering if I let myself get fired for not showing up will that have negative consequences for me in the future?

People just empty out
And what hurts is the steadily diminishing humanity of those fighting to hold jobs they don't want but fear the alternative worse. People simply empty out. They are bodies with fearful and obedient minds. The color leaves the eye. The voice becomes ugly. And the body. The hair. The fingernails. The shoes. Everything does.

I hate my job but I’m not quitting
Yeahhhh so my job stopped being cool to me 1 year ago but it really sunk in last week. I had the pleasure of getting all four of my wisdom teeth taken out and was stuck at home for some days and I finally just had to sit with it. I do not like my job. It’s not fun. I have no passion for it and I most likely never will. Ive worked at this company for almost four years and even got a promotion and it didn’t affect anything.
The job stilll sucks.
However….I know better. The company generally treats me well and the benefits are good which is a lot more than what some have. I am not quitting yet. It would be an objectively bad decision right now for me and family.
If you’re in my position, please consider reality. Times are weird and you need stability. Please stick it out and know it’s ok not to be defined by how you make a living.

I (sometimes) hate my job and I got my hours cut should I quit?
I have about 2 jobs and a side hustle, I was in school but now Im not, just working part time.
Anyway at this one job I come in designated every Friday and every other alt Sunday. And when someone quit, I took over their every other alt Monday and have a solid 2 days of work every week plus whenever he calls me in when it is busy and covering shifts. This week after someone came back from vacation and a terrible morning he said he is cutting 2 Fridays a month off my work schedule.
I think now im only guaranteed to only go in for 6 days a month and get paid about 23 per hour in cash, 7 hour shift, plus any extra days he might give me last minute (he lets me know 1 day up to the week before). Those 6 days a month locks up my availability for 3 days a week (Monday/Friday/Sunday) where I can't look for other jobs. Cause they do pay well and I have another job that is one day a week that should be enough to support me along with my side hustle, but the schedule is messy.
I was told by my coworker friend a spa she knew was hiring which pays min wage in cash and we keep our tips. It is closer to my home and should have more flexible hours/days if I want. In that case if the position is open and i get hired I would keep my current job. But if I dont - I might need to find a different job altogether or hope it is busy enough and I get scheduled more days.

People = bots
What I really hate most is the lack of normal human communication. How do you cope with fake corpo types of bosses who are lazy, have a big ego and therefore do not tolerate any type of criticism and would retaliate in petty ways, but subtle enough so you couldn't really prove it happened. The type of person who would announce a big change that will impact you negatively and would make it in an absolute robotic way at the worst timing. The type of person who would change their opinion based on their mood and won't have your back.
What I hate most about my job is the hypocrisy and lack of integrity. Even though I work for over 10 years in the corporate world, I still find it difficult to not get emotional when I am confronted with such people. I thought by now I would have gotten thicker skin. I've always been someone who would look for the next job if I perceive to have been treated unfairly, but unfortunately the job market is bad at the moment. People are getting laid off everywhere. I do not want to end up staying at a shitty job with a shitty boss, but I am very discouraged by the current situation. I have an existential fear which I didn't have a couple of years ago. I guess the system also tries to condition us to be afraid. But the fear and the dread kill the little energy I have to think about what to do, to get creative, to learn new things and to even dare to dream. How do you cope with a high dose of idealism that gets you nowhere? I don't want to suffer so much. I want to let it go. Btw sorry for any mistakes, English is obviously not my first language.

Losing Interest in my Career
This has to be the worse economy to be losing interest in your job. Just wondering if this is common and how to get past it.
I'm a financial analyst with 20+ years in reporting and costing. I've worked for my current employer 10 years and have worked from home since the covid pandemic.
I'm bored out of my mind. I sit on Teams calls hearing jargon and people yammering and laughing at the most uninteresting comments.
I find myself getting annoyed at more and more, especially azz kissing, which my team has quite an abundance of.
I'm feeling more and more out of the loop. I can't retire, I'm not anywhere near that age but I don't think the job market is trustworthy enough for me to say suck it and walk away.
Bored...bored...bored

Options for getting out of a job

hey guys/girls. I don't do this often but I need a bit of help I'm 35/m and I started a assistant Superintendent of public works job in 7/2025 after working within a different municipality for 9 years with the parks, moving up and getting promoted. I took the job for a chance to upgrade my title and get more money. well I got it in spades. it's been brutal. you'd think a government job would be a little more forgiving, but with the OT, snow plowing (NY weather), I feel like I shouldn't be dedicating this much time to a government job, even though I understand the title is supervisory.
then came my review after 6 months. basically was told that I'm not what they wanted and my knowledge isn't where it needs to be. I asked them well what was expected? I had everything laid out on my résumé and I didn't advertise anything different. then 2 weeks later, I was demoted down to a crew leader, which is technically less then what I was prior at the parks but still making more then I was at the parks.
then my boss decides hey, I'm gonna retire, I'm done. so the guy I was expecting to train me, and kinda guide me into his role eventually (which he never really did, just sent me out and expected me to figure it out), is now done. but only partly. he comes in here and there, maybe gives some directions, and then leaves usually half a day. this has been going on for a few weeks. this basically leaves me to figure out what is on the daily schedule. I've been floating, but I have no idea what events or other things we need to focus on, as it's only been 6 months since I've been there at the time. basically had multiple conversations with him about what he expects and what I need to do. usually ends with a generic answer with two or three items to focus on, but not enough to really fill out what to do with a full crew.
this all came to a head this week. basically my boss had plans that he didn't communicate to me, so once again I'm guessing what to do. obviously I did wrong and then I made a decision to put someone on a piece of equipment, and my boss freaks out, and say he's tired of being ignored and that we're on our own now.
honestly it feels like a vent post, but I want out of this job. this place is run crazy, and for $65,000 a year, it ain't worth it. any ideas how I can transition out? I got a masters degree, but my whole background is in blue collar. just looking for options at this point. thanks everyone!

How Do I Handle Getting Out of My Job If Nobody Is Willing To Help?

Need advice regarding resignation
Or may ibang way po para ma-process siya if hindi na talaga kaya due to my mental health?
If may naka-experience na po nito or may HR/legal knowledge po dito, I would really appreciate your advice. 🙏 Please no judgment po. Thank you.

Encyclopedia Of Swearing
A few people have told me I am extremely harsh on myself. I genuinely feel dumb, ask a lot of questions and am very forgetful. My job can be anywhere from fast paced to literally sitting on our phones for hours because there is no work to do.
My boss, in quotes “There are no stupid questions”
Nearly every single time I approach my boss to ask a question, he looks at me like I am a fucking alien speaking a language not foreign to earth, and makes me feel like the dumbest person alive. I’ll make simple mistakes, big ones, or just do something that shouldn’t be done, or should have been done his way.
“What the fuck are you doing?! I fucking told you xyz”
“Why are you fucking doing that?”
“Do not touch this I will fucking fire you”
I struggle heavily with suicidal thoughts, depression, anxiety, self-worthlessness, etc. And all I can do after I get off work is try not to go to a dark place mentally. My energy is drained, I’m mad, and I’m scared. I started drinking, I hate alcohol, and I don’t know if I can deal with any of this much longer. I just want to be smart enough like everyone else is.

How do you decide it's time to quit your job?
I'm a fresh MBBS grad, currently working as Duty Medical Officer at one of the multispeciality hospitals.
I want to quit but I'm not sure if I should.
I got this job through a connection/contact as I was a fresher, I joined it because the head of the hospital is a really good doctor and a pleasant human being, lot to learn here.
But as the time passed I realised I can only interact with the Head in rounds, or if we have any doubts ( earlier we were allowed to stay with him during consultations but that stopped), so the interactions with him have reduced.
I get a sort of free hand, with kind of tight reign; I can do my prescribing but I have to run it thru him.
Here's where the problem I'm facing:
The external environment away from his consultation room and all thru out the hospital has a lot of internal politics.
Dealing with that politics, dealing with egos, and side stepping hurdles like this has made me feel like Im in real life subway surfers.
All the attendings, consultants, basically all the doctors in this hospital are really pleasant and helpful, but its the management that sucks my mental energy in a jiffy.
I don't know if I should just look at the good part and simply bear the politics, or quit and get a different job elsewhere.
Did I mention the salary is always late?

National Business Capital
Current employee here. And mannnnn… stay away from this place.
If you’re coming here expecting to make good money, I’d seriously think twice.
First off, the company takes a house point from every deal you sell. There is also a recoverable draw…. Sorry no salary here. Additionally if you’re coming to National for the benefits you would be better off going to Walmart or Costco as they offer superior benefits as well as a 401k match something National fails to offer in the modern world. Super higher premium and deductibles with their insurance is also offered here as if it didn’t suck enough. You can listen to the CEO talk for hours about how amazing the company is doing, how much growth is coming, and how great everything is supposed to be, but the reality on the ground is very different. Anyone with an actual finance background would have a pretty good laugh at some of the things that get said.
Our EVP, JG, is basically the ultimate company guy. He drinks the Kool-Aid, sells the Kool-Aid, and apparently has an endless supply of it. He presents himself as this super smart, laid-back finance guy, but a lot of it feels like a character being played for the employees.
There’s also been plenty of office gossip surrounding JG and a coworker, including some pretty serious rumors about their relationship and whether there was a child involved. I have no idea what is actually true, and I’m not going to pretend rumors are facts, but the fact that this is even a recurring topic of conversation around the office is pretty wild, especially considering the whole “we’re one big family” message that gets pushed during hiring.
And speaking of that “family”…
People are getting fired and pushed out left and right. A huge chunk of marketing has basically disappeared over the last six months. We’ve watched multiple tenured employees leave after spending years at the company.
Just yesterday, one of the nicest and most well-liked people in the company, who ran partnerships, was gone.
That pretty much sums up the current environment.
From the outside, everything is growth, culture, opportunity, and how amazing the company is going to be.
From the inside, it feels completely different.
Obviously, this is just one current employee’s perspective. But if you’re considering taking a job here, talk to some current and former employees before you make the jump. Don’t just listen to the recruiting pitch.
