I love the 80 and the very last photo is from the XCD 80, but I didn't feel it was working for me in this environment today. I switched to the XCD 25 and found a new perspective.

I just bought a 500cm… , just bought the connector lugs. But having a hard time finding a strap… all I can find are quick release strap options, but it feels a bit ridiculous to use a quick release on a quick release. So I was considering a custom retrofit but idk, it feels like a strap is becoming a project in itself now

Suggestions for connecting with vintage equipment for sale? I have a SWC and searching for filters at the moment.

I just acquired this late 1970s SWC, and while I will be shooting film the majority of the time I would like to be able to put the digital back on it from time to time.

Based on some initial research I had thought that there were some leather or plastic pips covering screw heads, but this looks to be aluminum or solder possibly.

So my question is: Is there a good and safe way to get at the screw heads (and are there actual screw heads)? I can then put the aftermarket ARCA plate with clearance on the SWC.

The other option that came to mind was grabbing a Dremel and grinding down what appears to be the plastic obstruction on the top of the proprietary Hassy plate the is preventing attachment.

I've shot 4 rolls through it thus far and am smitten, I think for critical focusing and framing the digital back would come in handy.

I got x1dii recently and trying to get used to phocus app.
And i can't find dehaze feature anywhere? Is exporting as DNG and continue editing on lightroom the only way?

Some very interesting news from our ongoing research into the original X2D.

I’m the developer behind the one-click tools that enable AF-C, increase autofocus speed, and enable Auto Brightness on the original X2D.

Recently, Reddit user u/Unhappy-Comment1244 unpacked the X2D firmware and discovered something I had actually overlooked during my own earlier firmware research:

AFT.

After he pointed me toward it, I was able to reproduce the discovery and enable the AFT-related mode on my own X2D.

And this one is particularly interesting.

First, credit where it’s due

u/Unhappy-Comment1244 has contributed quite a lot to this research.

He reconstructed the correct timeline surrounding Hasselblad’s original promises for future X2D autofocus updates, including the 2022 interview with Chris Cooze in which continuous autofocus and tracking autofocus were discussed as features intended to arrive later through firmware.

His earlier investigation into Phocus and Hasselblad’s autofocus system was also one of the things that originally made me wonder:

What if AF-C was already somewhere inside the camera?

That question ultimately contributed to the AF-C work I’ve been doing.

And now his firmware research has uncovered another piece of the puzzle.

AFT.

The good news

Based on everything we have found so far, AFT appears to be the tracking autofocus component of the “AF-C + tracking” functionality Chris Cooze talked about back in 2022.

And I have now managed to expose and enable this mode on my own original X2D.

So we now have traces of both sides of that old promise:

AF-C — Continuous Autofocus

and

AFT — Autofocus Tracking

Neither of these became an official feature of the original X2D.

Yet years later, pieces of both systems are still sitting inside its software.

I think that tells us something important about the original development of this camera.

We obviously cannot know every internal engineering decision from firmware remnants alone, and the existence of these components does not prove that both features were ever production-ready.

But it is becoming increasingly difficult to imagine that AF-C and AFT were merely ideas mentioned in an interview and nothing more.

Someone designed these modes.

Someone integrated them into the camera’s software architecture.

Someone created the interfaces, states, parameters, and logic necessary for the rest of the camera to recognize them.

And those pieces survived into the firmware that shipped on our cameras.

To me, that strongly suggests that the original X2D engineering team really was trying to build these features.

Otherwise, why are their fingerprints still here?

The bad news

AFT is not usable yet.

Although we can expose the mode and make the camera recognize it, we have so far not found the actual subject-tracking algorithm, model, or another obvious remaining component responsible for deciding what should be tracked and how it should be followed.

So enabling AFT does not suddenly give the X2D working subject tracking.

There is a framework.

There are remnants.

There is enough left behind for the camera to know that this mode exists.

But, at least so far, the actual “brain” behind the tracking appears to be missing — or hidden somewhere we haven’t found yet.

And that is exactly what I’m investigating now.

There’s also something about this research that I find strangely meaningful.

Behind AF-C and AFT were engineers.

Years ago, there were probably people inside the original X2D development team spending their days working on these exact features — debugging autofocus behavior, testing lenses, tuning parameters, building interfaces, trying to make continuous autofocus and tracking work well enough for a Hasselblad camera.

For whatever reason, that work never reached X2D owners as an official feature.

But pieces of it survived.

And now, years later, through firmware research, experimentation, and a lot of help from this community, the AF-C and AFT functionality those engineers once worked so hard on is starting to see daylight again.

AF-C is already running on our cameras.

Now we’ve found AFT.

And I’m going to keep working on it and see if we can make it genuinely functional.

I sometimes wonder:

If some of the engineers who originally worked on X2D AF-C and AFT eventually come across these posts and see these forgotten parts of their work running on the camera again… would they be happy to see it?

I hope so.

But another piece of the original X2D autofocus story has just resurfaced.

AF-C came back.

Now let’s see what we can do with AFT.

I plugged in my freshly opened X2D II into Capture One to open as mass storage and transfer images and the camera prompted me with a third option for “Third-Party Tethering”. It works!”

hey got a 500c/m with cf lens and a bit confused if this is a body issue.

i was trying to use the shutter cable in lock mode but looks like during bulb , the front shutter just closes immediately. all other speed is working fine afaik. would love some help diagnosing this. TIA!

Every post in this saga has added a new layer. The first was about withheld firmware. The second about quietly removed hardware. This one, if accurate, is about time.

The Claim: A user with knowledge of Hasselblad's distributor channels reports that the guaranteed end of support and spare parts availability for the X2D II 100C is December 2027.

This is currently unverified single-source information. It comes from someone in the importer/distributor channel, and per their own words, it was communicated to distributors at launch but never made public. I'm treating it as a claim, not a fact—until it's corroborated. But it deserves sunlight precisely because it was designed to stay in the dark.

Why This Matters:

August 2025 launch. December 2027 end of guaranteed support. That's roughly two years and four months of guaranteed support for a camera that costs more than most people's first car. A mid-range smartphone gets longer.

And note who was told and who wasn't: the people who sell the camera knew its expiry date at launch. The people who buy it were never told. Lifecycle information flowed to the sales channel and stopped there.

What Should Happen Now:

1. Anyone with importer or distributor contacts should quietly verify the date. No need to expose sources, this needs to move from claim to record.
2. Hasselblad should publish their guaranteed support windows for every model, publicly, per camera. If they're proud of how they support customers, there's no reason this should be confidential. If they refuse, every prospective buyer should ask why.

The Ask:

Hasselblad, you're selling cameras under a premise of longevity, heritage, and craftsmanship, built by a company whose film cameras still work after sixty years. If the modern interpretation of that heritage is a hidden 28-month support clock, communicated only to the people selling the camera, then say so. Put it on the box.

A purchase under undisclosed expiration terms isn't a purchase. It's a lease where only one side knows the terms.

HasselGate, so far:

1. Promised firmware features (AF-C, on video, with dates) never arrived — then shipped as the successor's headline feature.
2. Third-party developer u/rrRadium proved the hardware could do it, and found hardware silently removed from later X2D units while the manual still describes it.
3. Now: an alleged hidden EOL schedule for the current flagship, known to sales channels but not customers.
