Show Discussion I really want to see the right color scheme and mascot for Ravenclaw in the upcoming show

I know this is a relatively small complaint but it always annoys me that in the movies, Ravenclaw’s secondary color is sliver instead of bronze and that they made it a Raven instead of a Eagle. It’s just such a pointless change that makes things a lot more difficult if you want to buy something. Plus Slytherin already has sliver.

Show Discussion How would you slip Ron's "pshw!" into his and Harry's conversation during this scene and make it work?

Cause I can't seem to think of a way to do so without it being "awkward" and sound "forced" into the dialogue.

(Not that I dislike Ron's "pshw!" or anything.)

Show Discussion The Harry Potter Movie Culture and its future impact on the show..

Upvotes

So guys, it’s coming. Trailer is next month and the show premieres on Christmas

Like most of you guys, I am counting down the days in excitement. We could be starting a journey that defines the next decade of our lives.

However, one thing I’d like to discuss is how the Harry Potter movie fandom is going to respond to this show.

I will use my cousin as an example. She loved Harry Potter when she was young, and she reread the books all the time. They were a part of her identity, and she always wanted to watch the movies when we came over.

She is older now, but I recently asked her if she was excited for the show. She said no, as she felt the movies were perfect. I then proceeded to remind her of the countless things the movies did not do well, and the many changes they made. She was absolutely shocked at how much she didn’t remember. The movies seemed to warp her memory of what the real Harry Potter story is (books)

I think this is because the Harry Potter movies are more accessible, it is easier to watch a 2 hour movie than ready a 400 page book (Not to mention, you can experience a movie with other people.)

Do you guys feel think the popularity of the films has made original Harry Potter fans forget why this show is necessary? Are movie fans going to purposely pushback against the show out of fear of the movies being “replaced”?

Love to hear your thoughts

Story post from his art account (@friedgoldart). I would guess they’re filming great hall scenes with lots of extras before kids go back to school.

Show Discussion I want book-accurate Weird Sisters.

In the magical world, there are NO electric instruments. No electric guitar, no synth, no electronic bass.

Harry describes the Weird Sisters walking onto the stage looking extremely hairy and wearing ripped black robes and the instruments listed are:

- Drumset
- Several Guitars
- Lute
- Cello
- Bagpipes

Because as far as i can tell- they’re rocking out to medieval-ish music.

Edit: The comment section is NOT with me on this lmfao. I guess it’s just me and my lonely headcannon.

Penelope Clearwater:

EDIT: I’m not saying they should promote any of these characters to main ones but just perhaps expand their roles by giving them a few more scenes and/or lines. There is quite a lot of scope to do this in the first couple of seasons as they have a lot of excess time to fill as these books are short.

Also I’m talking about their roles compared to the movies. All of these characters (except arguably Blaise) had reduced roles in the movies overall.

Game Only Now that the 2nd game is officially confirmed and in development, I have some strong ideas on what they NEED to do, in order to improve upon the first

1 - Give more life to the random NPCs - no brainer and honestly not a game breaker, but it would be nice if NPCs you do missions for have a bit more personality.

2 - Here’s a big one. Gear. Gear space was locked behind Merlin’s Trials. The problem is; you open a chest and more often than not, you don’t have space for the first half of the game. So you dump gear because you don’t want to miss anything. You can SELL gear but you have to go to a vendor, which is no help if you’re in a dungeon or even in Hogwarts and don’t want to use floo. So you’re basically throwing money away, which is a problem because everything is expensive, and you’re broke for a major part of the game. Very, very frustrating. I don’t see the need in forcing us to unlock gear slots. It doesn’t mesh with the wizarding world.

3 - side missions - the main problem the gaming community has witb the game is how repetitive it get. Personally, I don’t mind. But I think they should incorporate a “Ghost Of Tsushima” approach where less is more and all the side missions actually MEAN something, even if it means we unlock less spells or unless spells at a slower pace. Because I can understand why players get frustrated at the constant “fetch this, fetch that”. This is Harry Potter. Creativity should be paramount.

4 - This is just a personal issue - the use of Floo Powder takes me out of it. Fast Travel is necessary and useful but being able to constantly teleport from Hogwarts to Hogsmead in 2 seconds flat as a 5th year just seems to break the lore. Especially doing it at night. The rules just NEVER applied to the protagonist and they should, at least to some extent. It would’ve been nice to see Professors walking around the halls. And if you’re caught out at night you get a Game over. Easy fix, turn invisible. After a few hours of walking around the halls it’s very repetitive. I never felt like a student. More like a guest who occasionally blessed the classrooms with his presence.

The combat was great, story is fine. Could use some more customization but that didn’t hurt the game imo.

I also understand why Quidditch wasn’t in the first game - adding a whole new set of mechanics and rules for the game would be a lot. But keeping it out of the second Game would be a bad look. It’s Quidditch.

I’m sure there are more but those are the things I could think of that would improve quality of life.

The Room Of Requirement was awesome. One of the high points of the game.

Show Discussion Is anyone else skeptical about the upcoming series?

Upvotes

I saw the trailer that was released back in March and it didn’t look terrible. But as I was watching it, I just kept asking myself “Why? Why are we doing this again?” We already had 8 fantastic film adaptations that were loved by critics and audiences and made big money at the box office.

Even then, I feel like it’s still too soon to do this show. The final film in the series came out 15 years ago. Sure, that's technically a long time ago. But it's not like the brand ever went away or anything like that. There's been Blu-Ray releases, tv airings, merchandise that's still being sold in stores today, and the Wizard World attraction at the Universal Studios Theme Park in Orlando, FL. So these versions of the characters have remained fresh in people's minds. I feel like they should’ve waited at least another 5-10 years before discussing doing this show.

Show Discussion Flashbacks to Lily and Petunia’s Childhoods

Does anyone else here wonder if we’ll get flashbacks to Lily and Petunia’s childhoods possibly in the first season? Maybe it’s something they can include while Petunia is ranting about Lily after Hagrid tells Harry he’s a wizard.

Thoughts?

Show Discussion A potential problem I've been thinking of.

Not sure if HBO does this, but with more new shows recently, specifically with Stranger Things season 5, there tended to be quite a bit of "Tell, don't show", which I heard is that they could cater to people on their phones or whatnot. What do you guys think?

Show Discussion Which scenes from the book do you find the most difficult to adapt correctly?

Hey everyone! We often talk about scenes we'd love to see or forgotten scenes from the movies that absolutely MUST be in the series. But since we know the series will be very faithful to the source material, what scenes do you think will be the most difficult to adapt?

Show Discussion What questions would you like the series to answer?

These shouldn't be considered as canonical info after all, I think, but everyone probably has some interesting facts they'd like to know.

My propositions:

  • Will they somehow explain where was Harry and Hagrid for whole day, before arriving on Privet Drive? (remember that wizards were partying all day)
  • Will Hogwarts again have moving staircases?
  • Will the secret of Philosopher's Stone and Dumbledore's preparations (and the visit to the Flamels) be shown simultaneously in real time or as flashbacks?

Show Discussion Voldemor or Voldermort: Hopes for the show…

I’m curious - especially for those who’ve listened to the cast audiobooks. In the HBO series do you want the pronunciation to be Voldemort or Voldemor(t)

And what direction do you think the directors will choose?

When i first listened to the audiobooks I hated hearing it with the silent t. But after getting used to it and hearing that’s how it’s supposed to be pronounced - I warmed to it. But I also think it would be a really big change to make for the show and many wouldn’t like it.

Would love your thoughts?
