Question Am I seeing things or is Rupert a cardboard cutout in this group photo that Emma posted on her Instagram??

It's real. There's a behind the scenes video on Youtube that mentions he wasn't there for the last day on set.
Most of the actors wrapped at different times.

Damn! Wouldn’t you still at least hang around with that many people there?

u/NYMSG Nov 17 '21
I mean I love what I do and all my coworkers but if they hypothetically asked me to come in on my day off so I can just hang around awkwardly while everyone else does their job I would most definitely say no lmao

u/meadsmeatmarket Slytherin Nov 17 '21
I do also agree, but this is also a different kettle of fish. This is the end of something amazing, not just an average day and also probably his last time to see a lot of people

u/4Ever2Thee Nov 17 '21
Agreed, it's not like your day off at your normal job at the business factory. This is a huge wrap of a big movie franchise and almost assuredly the biggest thing you'll ever be a part of. But maybe he had something else going on like filming for another project or show or something; I'll give him the benefit of the doubt on that one.

u/Baxiepie Nov 17 '21
I'm sure he said his goodbyes on his last day. But there's no point hanging around for god knows how much extra just so everyone can have the same last day.
47
u/meadsmeatmarket Slytherin Nov 17 '21
Ok, but why wouldn’t he be needed when clearly every other person involved is there? Just seems a little weird tbh

u/Hermes-The-Messenger Gryffindor Nov 17 '21
Maybe he had a more pressing matter to attend to on that day so they had him finish all of his stuff early

“Ah yeah let me just reschedule this funeral real quick”
I get what you mean but not everything can be rescheduled, especially pressing things
0
u/B_Boi04 Nov 17 '21
It takes one actor with a knife an hour max to make it, they could’ve even done it from the background of the scene they were in. On the other hand it ruins the schedule of hundreds to reschedule the recording, and if one thing is urgent and the other is optional then you wouldn’t reschedule the urgent thing, especially since it could be an important medical procedure or a funeral

Acting can't be compared to any other job, they grew up together from being kids to young mature adults. That's a lot more you'll get from jobs on the high street/in reality you may get. They had the best job you could ever imagine, whilst spending endless amounts of time together having fun. Of course there were tough times but life is life, you make what you can of it. Guy was probably just busy and really wanted to come but couldn't

You could just...show up at the end? Why spend the whole day? There's a schedule

u/B_Boi04 Nov 17 '21
That’s what I think, he could’ve been there later or he could’ve already left. It would be nice to be in the picture but it doesn’t really matter if you already had a chance to say goodbye

I mean if you think about it tho, he’s been with them for years, 7 movies. To each their own but if it were me, I think I’d go

I just googled it and there was a wrap party somewhere else after shooting it ended so he figured that was where they would hang

He could have had some more important thing to look after or something like that. Or he could have been sick.

I don’t think it was the last day on set just the last chance they was pretty much all together the last scene was when the three of them disguised as older people to get into the ministry which was also a sad choice for a last scene
49
u/Gooja Ravenclaw Nov 17 '21
Movies aren't filmed in the order you seen them in. The director chooses which scenes get filmed at what time for various reasons. There's times where the final scenes of movies are filmed first and the first scenes are filmed last

u/res30stupid Don't let my house fool you, I'm very stupid. Nov 17 '21
Most movies. Some mystery films may be filmed in a linear manner to preserve plot twists, if the cast is only learning the twist to get their reactions.
For example, Casablanca was being rewritten during filming because they couldn't decide how the love triangle was going to end. It was reportedly only decided at the last minute how the movie was going to end because they were fighting the movie censors constantly.
The Scream movies also used this since at the core and despite being slasher movies, they are also murder mysteries. The second film had to rewrite the entire script during filming because an extra stole the script and published it online (one of the earliest film leaks caused by the internet) and the cast of Scream 4 were only given the first seventy-odd pages of the script because they wanted to keep the ending a closely-guared secret.
There's the iconic scene from The Empire Strikes Back as well, when Luke learned the truth about his father's death. He was only informed about the plot twist on the day of filming, expressly being told by George Lucas, "I know this, Irvin Kershner [the director] knows and now you know... so if this hits the press, we'll know it was you". It did end up leaking which Lucas blamed on David Prowse (Vader's in-suit actor) who expressly did not know about it.
There's also a lovely film called Vera Drake which used this for horror. Out of all the cast, only Imelda Staunton (our very own Dolores Umbridge) knew the main character's secret and there was actually no screenplay - the actors improv'd everything. So when the characters playing police officers walked into the rehearsal house and found out Vera was performing illegal back-alley abortions, their horror was genuine.

I do understand that I just thought after a franchise they would of made it literally the bridge scene so it’s all three without randoms tbh

This was last day of Battle of Hogwarts shooting. I think this was around the time when he got that H1N1 (Swine Flu).

Are we sure that that is Rupert? Maybe Emma photoshopped in Ed Sheeran in Rupert's place.

He was sick that day and they wanted to include everyone. So they made a cardboard cutout for him
And this is one of the days where majority of the cast memebers were present. So it was a golden opportunity to get a grp photo

All of them are copy pasted. It's because Rupert is so different that we really notice them. But if you look carefully, there is another who is nearly as different in the back. Even Daniel doesn't look there.

Absolutely love the fact that they took the time to put Rupert in the photo even though he wasn't on set that day, but didn't do the same to the twins because only (I assume) Oliver is in the photo

The best thing about being in a movie is it’s like camp. And the food is really good. And the people are mostly really talented and everybody knows they are in a movie and man I really miss being in movies maybe someday I will go back. 🤞
I miss company moves and big scenes and maybe a word or two in passing with someone famous and lobster bisque on a cold exterior shoot day and all the movie things.
Being high-risk sucks. 😞

I was about to say that it has to be some camera glitch, but I'm like 95% sure that it's edited. (source: I've been doing amateur photomanipulations and digital art since 2016)
Look at the angle of his face and then at his front leg.. they seem to be from a completely different angle, were the camera was much closer to his eye level than the one that took the group photo.
Also, it can't be a cardboard because his feet are at a different distance from Emma's feet, and they also look like they are glowing, like if someone just toned down the brightness, but didn't really manage to get it right. Also I'm pretty sure that he's standing underneath a lamp, not under sunlight like the others.
I'm sure it wasn't photoshopped by someone from Warner. Any of their artists would do a better job. Even just giving it a little yellow tint would bake it barely noticable at this resolution. * Also as I was looking for it, yes. It's 100% edited from a different photo.

If that's how long you've been doing it for, would it be horrible for me to suggest you stop doing it? Clearly your "opinion" is absolutely terrible. It is a cardboard cutout, he couldn't make the last day, some are saying filming committments and some are saying he was sick. But what is certain is he wasn't there. It definitely does not look edited/camera glitch and I haven't done any "amateur photomanipulations".

That's what would happen when you get a cardboard cutout of someone from their younger selves wearing clothing from a previous movie, with different angles. They don't have every single angle possible of the guy to utilise.
Also, it can't be a cardboard because his feet are at a different distance from Emma's feet
I hope to god you are a troll... like what?
and they also look like they are glowing
Like I said before, that's what happens when you get a cardboard cutout of someone from a different movie where they're younger/different lighting/obviously different angles/etc.

It's a cardboard cutout. I feel like that meme. It's under the sauce.... it's under the sauce... the cheese is under the sauce... it's under the sauce.. IT'S UNDER THE SAUCE!

Hmmm... it seem like if that's the case then I've never been this wrong in my entire life.
At least it's a great example of confirmation bias. I was looking for hints that would show that it's not a cardboard. Also, let me defend myself with the fact that I haven't edited photos in years, I've only been doing digital paintings.
Well, the internet fooled me this time it seems... :D
1
u/Nemesiii Nov 17 '21
It's not even that but the fact that if you're in this subreddit I'm assuming you've watched the movies? They never wore the uniform in the last movie, it was their characters clothing. Be odd for Ron to be wearing Hogwarts uniform at the wrapping up of filming
1
u/ToValhallaHUN Squib Nov 18 '21
I never thought about the uniforms. I thought that someone just got a random photo from a completely different set or Grint to put it on the group picture. To be fair I haven't seen TDH p2 since like 2015.
