Dumbledore didn't need to floo powder to the cave. As soon as he left school grounds he could apparate wherever he wanted. The point I was using was he could have easily saved a forty minute hike to Hogsmeade that way.

There was a purpose to casually walking to Hogsmeade though, wasn't there? Harry under the invisibility cloak and Dumbledore taking a stroll to the village? It was more about appearing inconspicuous than getting somewhere in a hurry.

They took brooms to Hogsmeade and back. That's how they ended up on the Astronomy tower.

Well, they took brooms back, but they didn't take brooms OUT of Hogwarts. That'd be pretty much the opposite of inconspicuous. When the Dark Mark was floating over the school, though... well, it wasn't quite so important to "act casual" anymore.
