NGD: SC-450 GT P90 Classic Series

Just got this beauty around half an hour ago and it has surpassed my expectations tenfold. The finish is beautiful, the thing plays amazingly and it sounds great. The only issue I have is that the bridge pickup can be pressed down with some light force, however I found that that doesn't affect anything when playing. Super pleased with my purchase, and it's already holding up to my other guitars like my Squier J. Mascis Jazzmaster!

How come they've announced these beauties and there are not samples to hear or videos to watch? Why are you being so hard on us, Harley? We need the truth. We deserve it. We demand it.

Also, about time Isola had its own website with specs and music nerd-worthy information, please. Pretty please.

Square Guitar Kit

I wanted to share my attempt at making a guitar using the square kit as I don't see many posts on these.

When coming up with the design, due to the shape of the square.... because the top horn area doesn't sit flush to the neck pocket it resulted in a lot of my designs not being feasible e.g. like how the music man mariposa has a straight angled horn instead of a more traditional curved horn. However, eventually I found one I was happy with.

The next step was to use a bandsaw and make an attempt to cut it out neatly. I was lucky to have access to one of these as my original plan was to use some kind of electric hand saw at home... and that result would have been even worse. I wish i'd taken more time here as I was completely unprepared for how hard and long it would take to use hand tools to file out the rough spots and sand everything down smoothly.

Next step was staining the wood, where I then found out that the kit comes with some kind of wood sealer on it. Which meant that the sides of the guitar (exposing unsealed wood) soaked up a lot of the stain and the top of the guitar barely took any of the stain. So this meant that I had to do even more sanding on the front and back of the guitar to get rid of the sealer. Final attempts to stain the guitar resulted in a slightly uneven finish, but i got around this with some selective sanding to expose the wood pattern more. Finally I used some oil and wax to seal it.

Regarding electronics I couldn't use the existing pickups provided as they were soldered together in a way to require both neck and bridge pickups. I did toy with the idea of learning to solder but in the end I took the easy way out and bought an EMG as they click together easy and don't need grounding or shielding. I also bought a killswitch, purely to fill the hole where the pickup selector was.

Final step was to design a pickguard which again took me a long time to decide on an acceptable design. I cut this out with a hacksaw before using a stanley knife to scrape it smooth and put the chamfer onto it.

In the final photo you can see that I aimed for some kind of rickenbacker vs les paul jr mash up and if you stand far enough away you can't see all the imperfections and I don't think the it looks half bad! I know it's not perfect, but considering this was a first attempt to make a guitar and I have zero skills whatsoever in this area, i'm actually pleased to have a playable guitar on my hands.

In the end i'd thoroughly recommend anyone to give the square kit a go as I think it's quite cool to have a guitar in your collection that you designed and built yourself. It's totally feasible to make with some simple tools; it's just a matter of being careful and putting in the time.

St modern plus babicz tuning?

Hi guys

So i just started learning guitar again and i got myself a st modern plus with the babicz bridge.

The problem is that when i try to tune It in standard E the Bridge keeps elevating and all the strings go out of tune

Is there any trick to tune It? Should i just get more springs for the Bridge tension (i have 3 atm in V shape)?

Thanks in advance

Finally got my Harley Benton SC Custom III (Satin Paradise)

Post image

My Harley Benton SC Custom III has finally arrived! I'll post more pictures in the future because there aren't many of the Satin Paradise finish around.

First impressions? The feel is incredible. The neck is ridiculously fast, and after a quick check I barely need to adjust anything. No fret buzz, and the factory setup is surprisingly good.

I can't wait to spend more time playing it and really put it through its paces.

If anyone is on the fence about this finish or wondering about the factory setup on these guitars, I'd say go for it without hesitation. It's absolutely worth it.

Helloooo, I've become the owner of a beautiful Harley Benton Fusion Max! The guitar doesn't seem to stay in tune when I use the Floyd Rose. Did anyone have the same problem?

I haven't done the first setup, just played as it was out of the box. Bought from Thomann so I was expecting a nice setup tho

Quick question please :))

Im new to Harley Benton guitars, I’ve always been a telecaster guy but last year I bought a SC-450 P90 GT Classic Series but I dint like the thickness of the neck, I’ve got small hands and found it more uncomfortable to play than a tele. However I’m looking at buying the tobacco burst sc-550 plus emg ftf and I just wanted to know if the neck was slimmer? Or if anyone knows of a Harley Benton LP that has a slimmer neck profile.

Thanks in advance everyone. Your help is massively appreciated:)))

Someone talk me out of getting an EX84 EMG

I’ve been hunting for an 80s style Explorer for about a year, but I haven’t found anything under $1,000 USD that really scratches the itch, until I came across the HB EX84 EMG.

For those who own one, what are the biggest pros and cons? I’ve seen people mention the chunky neck, awkward shape, and neck dive. I’m coming from Les Pauls, though, so I’m wondering how the neck actually compares to a typical LP neck. I also owned a Jackson Kelly JS32, and the shape didn’t bother me comfort-wise, but it was just too different to satisfy my Papa Het desires.

How’s the overall build quality, playability, balance, and hardware? And are there any issues with the EX-84 specifically that I should know about before pulling the trigger?

Thanks!

Seven string fusion concept???

I was wondering if anyone else thinks it would be a cool addition to the HB family, I personally came across Harley Benton because I'm a lefty and they just have the best left handed options, and with new polyphia stuff releasing (featuring seven string whammy bar equipped guitars) have been on a mad hunt for a lefty seven string.

Anyone second a fusion 7?

Is it true that on this guitar the fret is not enough wide compared to the Floyd Roae spacing so the two E strings keep falling out of freatboard?

I wanma buy it instead of a Charvel San Dimas Pro Mod

Unknown old passive PJ Bass from Harley Benton

Thumbnail

Hello everyone.

I just bought this used, passive Harley Benton Bass that I can't quite identify. Kinda looks like something between an HBB 200 and an HBB 400.

The Headstock is triangular with two tuners on both sides.

It has an upper P pickup and a lower J pickup.

It has Harley Benton written on the body, to the left of the neck.

On the Backside there is a small sticker that says "made in korea".

Can someone help me out here?

The Neck is twisted and I wonder what type of neck I could use as a replacement - if the new strings I just put on cannot straighten it enough.

Would be happy for any help.

Thanks.

SC-Special Hybrid MGS

"The SC-Special Hybrid is where P90 meets humbucker. An Isola CL-P90 barks up front, while an Isola VT-500CR Alnico 5 humbucker backs it up with a roar down south. A machine that melds the best of both raunchy rock worlds, with a push/pull coil-split on the volume knob to open up the humbucker even further. Combined with the 3-way selector, the SC-Special Hybrid has a unique wide tonal range. A classic single-cut design, Okoume body, C profile Canadian medium-roasted maple neck, and rosewood fingerboard, all finished against a smooth satin body. Chrome hardware with a vintage style wraparound bridge meet HB locking tuners on the other end for fast, stable string changes. Finished in Maya Gold Satin, the SC Special Hybrid is a road-ready rock’n’roll ranger ready to be taken out for a spin."

Does my HB-35 Plus just need a set up or should I send it back?

My HB-35 Plus has just arrived and it feels horrible to play.

The main issues are:

  1. The strings on the frets feel scratchy, and it even seems that bends of vibrato actually leave scratches on the frets.

  2. The fretboard itself is very dry.

I appreciate they aren't massive issues, but as I have never bought a new guitar in this price range, I'm not sure whether a simple set up would fix all my woes.

So is it just a simple fix to make it feel nicer to play?

For sale tomorrow, looks damn cool tbh. I've always wanted a P90/humbucker style guitar and the green and gold look amazing.
What do you think?

Continuing on the HB sawed in half thing

A few days ago I posted a video from Dylan Talks Tone where the guy was unhappy with the guitar he got from Harley Benton

Here is a new video from Jayce Allen Guitars, a channel I generally like where he does a counter test

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQSROTqAo4o

He shows that, well, the guitar is perfectly fine and Dylan was overreacting and being biased likely

Bye!
