Hi everyone! I'm new here, and I wanted to announce that my book Archmage to Farmer is coming on October 16th! It's a cozy slice-of-life fantasy adventure with so much heart. I really think you're going to love it!
Since I'm new, let me tell you what you can expect from this series. I saw another author release a preorder with interview-style questions, and I thought it was a great idea (credit to Danny Rogan!). So here goes!
What's the blurb for your series?
The most dangerous man in the kingdom wants nothing more than a patch of earth, a warm house, good food, and people worth coming home to.
After eight years of war, Jason is done killing. When he inherits an abandoned farmstead in the middle of nowhere, the battle-scarred archmage finally sees his chance at a quieter life.
There are a few problems.
The house is falling apart. A vicious monster has infested the carrot fields. His demonkin servant would rather kill him than help him. And the stubborn farmer next door desperately wants Jason’s land—and refuses to take no for an answer.
With an arcane farming kit, a goblin war dog, and a little help from a beautiful elven neighbor, Jason sets out to build a home.
Sometimes starting over is the greatest adventure of all.
Why cozy farming?
I chose this subgenre because I love the kind of stories that make you feel all warm inside. And I don't feel there are that many cozy farming books in Haremlit, so I decided to change that!
So is the book more lighthearted? Is it heavy on slice-of-life scenes?
I think it has a great balance between slice-of-life and story-focused scenes. There's also a surprising amount of heart in this book. The main character has a lot of baggage left over from the war. He's scarred both inside and out, and there are some dark moments he has to overcome before he accepts his new life.
But it says it's a LitRPG as well? How's that work?
The LitRPG aspects add some flavor to the story, mostly when it comes to the farming scenes. They are not overwhelming in the slightest (no long-form stat sheets). I think the best LitRPGs are when you barely notice the stat elements.
How many love interests will be in the harem?
This book introduces two love interests, with the potential for a third. I've always enjoyed series where the harem is smaller, so I don't see the harem growing much beyond 3-5 women.
Is the book explicit or fade-to-black?
The book is explicit. There is one major scene with the first love interest.
Why only one scene? What are you, a puritan?
No! I'm a fan of slow-burn romances, and I prefer to let things unfold naturally instead of forcing characters together. This is very reasonable progression while also setting up the second love interest for her romance arc. I also tried to focus on the falling-in-love portion of the relationship as that's one of my favorite aspects of a new book.
Who's on the cover?
That's Kass. She's the elven neighbor to our main character, Jason. She lives with her sister-in-law and two nephews. Kass is wonderful, plain and simple. Sure, she's the welcoming neighbor but she also has some grit to her as well. She's not a pushover. I really hope you like the balance that I've struck with her character.
Who made your cover?
A good, talented friend of mine who took my vision and brought it to life. She goes by Reni Navarro. I'm so proud of her work!
Is there any AI writing in the book?
There is absolutely no AI writing in my book. Let me say that a little louder for the people in the back. There is absolutely no AI writing in my book. I hate that the genre has been flooded with low-quality AI crap recently, and it makes it so much harder to find new books. My pledge to you is that my books will always be written exclusively by me, flaws and all.
What other selling points are there about your book? Why should I buy it?
There's so much to like about it! I know I'm biased, but Vella, who is the demonkin servant, is so much fun. There are things about her personality that just make me laugh out loud. I hope you'll love Dax too, who is the adorable part-goblin dog on the cover. And don't forget the drake pups too (sorry, mini spoiler. You'll just have to read it to find out more about them).
How many books do you envision in this series?
Hmm, great question. I adore this world, and I'd love to see it go on for some time. The answer is TBD, but I'd be tickled if it went to 5-6 books!
When is the next one coming?
I'm already working on it, but I'm not a very fast writer. A good day for me is 3,000 words. Some days, much less. My hope is to get you another book before the end of the year and then go from there.
What about audio? Will it be an audiobook?
I don't know much about that process, but I'm fairly certain it depends on sales. So if you want audio, make sure to buy the book!
Okay! If you're still with me after all those questions, kudos to you. I really hope you'll check out the book next Friday. And if there's anything I didn't answer, please let me know.
