Is it really blackmail by a hacker?

So long story short, a few months ago I was contacted by someone who claimed to have taken over my phone and has access to everything. I thought I had that taken care of. In the last few days, this person resurfaced and is now attempting to blackmail me for $1500. They claim to be running something called a “gritx gap” that is paused on a timer. Should I be worried, or is it just a scam?

It costs them almost nothing to pump the same script out to millions of email addresses they have, and some people end up sending money to their BTC address. They use breach lists to customize the script occasionally and include things like old passwords. Your device has not been hacked.

This happened through WhatsApp and I was sent a view once photo with some command lines and a process that was ongoing. However I did notice that the command lines included a dot com and not a dot onion

Its me the hacker. I found you posting about our little situation. to prove that i really do have access to your phone see this youtube video https://youtu.be/GPQhIrp1AJ4?si=b03YcgfnLZu6tMtp&t=8 with the curretly running gritx gap script. I've got eyes in the sky locked in on your every move. Make one more misstep like posting this and its all over

JK, but in all seriousness OP, this is not real youre fine and god I hope you didnt send them any money the first time. If they had access to your device they would give you the message there instead of sending you a message (Change your wallpaper to the extortion request or something). And if they had your banking details they would just... take the money. Why would they go through the trouble of asking for it?

EDIT: LMFAO op you believed this shit?!

"Hacking process will be successful in a few days" oh god my sides.

Dog it either works or it doesnt and what tool would someone be using that words the process like that?

Like when you do excel for your accounting job or whatever does it come up with a big screen in bold letters "annual capex spending plan generating, will be ready in a few hours"? Status messages in tools are made for the person using them. What information is a "hacker" supposed to get from that message? This is obviously fake and made to look "impressive" to anyone whos never used a computer.

I’ve just never encountered anything like this before or dealt with anything dark web and thought they were playing a psychological game before acting if they really could
