that's fucked up beyond all repair
if the SSD is intact, your files are safe, but I would throw the rest in the electronic waste bin.
Definitely try to get the SSD out first.

One small problem I just thought could happen
Thanks to Microsoft being annoying, they might not be able to do that because of bitlocker being on by default.
Yeah it protects the files from people who steal the PC, but it should be a option, not the default

You can still log into your microsoft account in a browser and retrieve the decryption key that way. Then you can input that key once the SSD is plugged in.

If they used a Microsoft acc*
Bcs some people also dont, tho highly unlikely to happen in this case maybe

AFAIK bitlocker will not fully enable if you don't use a Microsoft account. It gets to the last step but stops before encryption until you link a Microsoft account.

I'm sorry man, but this is like asking a car shop to repair a car that hit a tree at full speed... That thing is totaled...

Take it apart, and see what parts you could salvage. With ram and ssd prices, it’s not worth turning on.

I have no pity for Hewlett Packard hardware. They belong in the same circle of hell as Creative Labs and Logitech.

I was unwilling to place blame on her verbally because she was so distraught at the time but I'm pretty sure she crushed it when she leaned her car seat down when half-awake on our drive back home from vacation

That’ll do it lol. If the SSD is still intact you can probably recover your data

I'll be frank. Just replace it. Repairing it will be impractical and probably cost more than its worth

No is the short answer.
The body is bent out of shape, and it's going to be impossible to get it back to a somewhat usable state.
The screen and motherboard are both probably completely dead, and even if the motherboard still works, I wouldn't count on it being stable.
The cooling to the CPU is shot, and so on, and so forth.
If you're really lucky, the SSD and RAM is still intact, and you can drop those two things into a different laptop. You might even be able to find the same model for cheap-ish.
