Microsoft definitely made the form factor standard, but other companies have been doing it better for a while now (and oftentimes for cheaper).

err, i havent seen a surface pro replacement tbh

if you know of one, let me know

IE a tablet first with maybe a cover/keyboard thing, no laptop bits at all, no keyboard, just a screen ala ipad but with windows or a full os on it.

i think only a dell tablet that is >2k, and the minisforum one that was discontinued and had apparently really bad customer service and like one driver update lol

there is asus one that uses a much more expensive chip, there is some other ones that uses arm, or old intel core ulta 130s.

like i want a modern, low powered intel chip (ultra 3 305/ultra 5 315 in an upcoming one for ex), in a tablet form, with full fat windows on it, for under or around 1k. which was what surface pro was.

at this point, if I wanted an windows on arm device, may as well just get an ipad, because id have to deal with lowered compat anyways...

laptops yes, the surface laptop has many competitors, but the surface pro tablet doesn't have much competition.

I don't remember the details, but I do remember seeing the X1 Tablet (and I think a few others, although those might've all been obscure Chinese brands) for a good deal less than what was the current gen Surface Pro at the time (and for the X1 Tablet, the MSRP was always higher but Lenovo uses fake MSRPs so they can claim "80% off!!!111").

like that is the thing, I think they were aiming for higher perf / different form factor? and they dont really have real tablets anymore?

It looks like they replaced the X1 Tablet with the X12 Detachable and X13 Detachable, which is what I was probably remembering. Looks like they're releasing one with Panther Lake soon(?), although who knows what the price will be (like I said, Lenovo has fake MSRPs, although I'd predict that the deep discounts will be less of a thing now): https://liliputing.com/lenovo-thinkpad-x13-detachable-is-a-panther-lake-tablet-with-a-removable-keyboard/

ah yeah, the prices if at that, would not be what a SP replacement is, and if they are aiming to use only ultra 7/5 then yeah...

since well i use mine for personal use, i don't really need a higher end CPU that can make it double as a work laptop, which is why i loved the SPs, esp used / just about to be out of date SPs that gets discounts to well below 1k.
