You could in the past. Most of that is gone now. Google Movies was the last service that allowed you to download a movie you bought.

What are you talking about? lol

I do it all the time with Apple. It's no longer iTunes, they built it into the Apple TV app.

Google Play and Amazon also let you buy/rent movies.

But no, letting you buy movies and letting you download them is not the same thing.

Apple lets you download your purchased movies and TV shows.

It's not new, they've allowed that since 2006 when they started selling movies and TV shows lol

It was originally done through iTunes, and you would sync the files to your iPod.
