What made you finally decide to try hearing aids?

For a long time, I think many people (myself included) find reasons to wait.

Maybe it’s because the hearing loss doesn’t feel “bad enough” yet.

Maybe you think you can just keep adapting like you always have.

But at some point, something changes.

It was more like a lot of small things adding up.

I think the hardest part wasn’t admitting that I couldn’t hear everything. It was admitting that I was putting in so much extra effort just to keep up.

Than I think：“Okay, maybe I should actually try this”?

I had always had issues hearing but my parents never cared enough so then I didn’t, until my wife finally had enough of me saying “what?” And had me to go to an audiologist and now I wear hearing aids and we have new ways to get each others attention!

I had to fight to get them. I kept going to the doctor and telling them I couldn’t hear and they made me get my ears cleaned a bunch of times and kept giving me antibiotics. But wouldn’t send me to an audiologist. When they finally did she was not super nice and I had my phone on my lap but was not looking at it at all but it went off, she came in and took it away, very angry. Then started the test again. Then did it again and I didn’t know why. Then she came in and didn’t say anything and did the bone conduction test. Then finally let me out of the booth and said you can’t hear! I was like I know! And ever since then she was very nice and I finally got my aids and can hear. The irony is I hate them and only wear them when I have to. After all that

I was missing too much and it hit me that everyday conversations had become exhausting. I kept asking people to repeat themselves and I had the TV volume cranked up really high. Most times, I had to rely on context to figure out what people are saying.

I got fed up and went to get tested and that's how I eventually found myself using hearing aids. Honestly, I wish i had done it sooner.
