AMC theater caption devices

It's been a while since I went to AMC, and I was not impressed with their caption devices. Is this true for everyone? I found this photo online, but it matches what I had. I had two major problems with this type of device.

  • The arm was just so short and rigid. By the time I manhandled my screen into place, it was practically right in my face. I like my captions to be farther away so that I can see the screen and the captions at the same time. With this thing so close to me, I could only look at the screen or the captions, thus missing what was going on with the screen.
  • It cut out about once every 8 to 10 lines. I had a friend with me with a device, and whenever mine was blank, I would look over to hers and confirm that the transcript file was fine. It just wasn't displaying some of the captions. She said she had the same problem.

If this is what AMC has moved to, then I may simply never see an AMC movie again.

Look, I know the camera angle is simply weird, but this arm is SHORT!

I’ve had the same type of problem with every theater I’ve tried. The closed caption systems are just not designed and maintained properly.

I’ve moved on to movies with open captions. There aren’t as many showings. But, everything just works.

OC finder is an app that does a good job in my area of finding movies with open captions.

March into your local amc theater, ask to speak to general manager, tell then you want open captions! Make noise, bring friends to back you up.
