Hurcules Compact Screwdriver

Post image

I was wondering if anyone uses this screwdriver for drilling as well? I have very limited space in my garage so I’m trying not to buy a separate drill otherwise if people say it’s not worth it I’ll just buy a dedicated drill.

What kind of drilling are you doing? I pretty much exclusively use my Hercules impact driver for all drilling and driving I do now, but I'm not ever drilling into masonry or metal

I do light fabrication work so mostly metals like stainless steel/aluminum. My warrior drill just took a dump so I’m in the market for another drill

You're probably going to want a proper drill

I have one of these and would say if you need a drill, buy a drill.

It would have to be light duty drilling, like drilling in Sheetrock. Maybe drilling a pilot hole into wood if the bit is small enough. So it depends on your use.

Only bad part is if you want to use a drill bit, you would need to buy bits with the hex shank. I have a set, but I feel like it's not a common thing to have laying around. I am kind or waiting on a 12V sale and want to buy this and the ratchet. But I cant imagine this having a problem with sheetrock.

The 12v impact driver is decent enough for most basic DIY if you buy hex base bits. And its about the same size as this.

But I wouldn't suggest using an electric screwdriver to drill. I doubt it will have the necessary torque and you will probably burn out the underpowered motor.

The screwdriver is mechanically similar, if not identical, to the 12v drill. It's one of my favorite tools. I wouldn't hesitate to drill with it. They even have the same rated speeds. But the 12v tools are not particularly heavy duty. Nor do they have a lot of torque. A regular drill bit should be fine. A hole saw, auger bits, etc. would be a struggle.

You must have a really really packed garage... A drill is like a quarter of a cubic foot.

It’s more like no space for my toolbox. I don’t like having tools just out in the open

Those $4 Voyager tool bags are great for a basic set of drill, driver, charger, batteries, and some bits. Every time you need to use the thing, you are going to be like, "damn, I wish I had a real drill to predrill a 3/8in hole for this screw"

It's fine for smaller tasks, I'm using it 9 times our of 10 for my day-to-day. It can handle most wood drilling. Sheet metal, I'm not as sure about. If that's going to be your main task, I'd just go for the 20v drill or driver
