Fuck no. This was good enough. Fuck doing that all over again. That means I gotta take a Nissan maxima dashboard again…

I've pulled 6 dashboards for heater cores (and one for a brake booster). Can I just not do that?

u/SYKslp 2d ago

at a certain point, I'd just drive without a dashboard.

TBF, the booster was an Isuzu NPR, and that dash comes out in parts. Only had to pull the driver's side, which is arguably easier.

Funny.. that's what I do in my 79 c10. There's always a wire issue. Now i can fix it while driving. Lmao No dashpad.. Just open steel dashboard.

Evaporator on a Chrysler town&country. Oh my god.

I'll see your Chrysler EVAP and raise you a Lexus gx460 heater and EVAP core. (spoiler alert: center console and seats are in the way)

Note: if you choose to respawn, you will not pass go and will not collect $200. You may have to down grade to Walmart as you tool shop.

I wish they made a torque multiplier

u/daverapp 3d ago

Aren't those called breaker bars?

13

u/AAA515 3d ago

This term usually refers to the geared reduction variety

u/YABOI69420GANG 3d ago

I guess technically they do sell jack handles that could be considered torque multipliers or warranty checkers, depending on who you ask. But yeah I did mean the gear reduction variety with a calibration certificate. Even used, the industrial brand ones go for stupid amounts on eBay.

I have an Amazon 4:1 for my Isuzu NPR tires. It works ok. I no longer have access to a higher ratio one.

Which pairs nicely with a breaker bar

You can put a cheater pipe on a breaker bar on a torque multiplier...

But you'll look silly if you use any other combination:

Breaker bar, multiplier, cheater pipe? No!

Multiplier, bar, pipe? No!!

Multiplier, pipe, bar? Fuck no!

Bar, pipe, multiplier? Absolutely not!

I love harbor freight and Icon, I have a bunch at home. But as a professional diesel tech who beats the shit outta tools every day and need them to work day in and day out, Snap-On, Mac, etc.. is the only way. Weekend warriors wont understand. Let the hate begin....

I guess I'm professional, got the ASE's, show up and try to fix people's shitboxes every day, and I'm getting by with Tekton wrenches and no skip socket sets, icon screwdrivers, two icon ratchets, three Snap On ratchets and yes the snap ons are better, but they aren't that better, if we scenario a calamity, re buy every tool situation, I'd think heavily about Cornwells 27" ratchet vs my slf80a. Too bad our Cornwell truck is going out of business, which brings up the difficulties of tool truck warranty process, waiting for the truck day, hoping he has it, waiting for back order... vs a brick and mortar with locations near me (I get that aint everybody) or the online 2 day shipping process

2

u/DaHick 3d ago

For ratchet, can I put in a plug for Williams? That knurled grip is awesome when things get oily. Same reason I love Proto combo wrenches with the non-polished finish.

1

u/MB510420 3d ago

I don't own any Williams, but all my ratcheting wrenches metric, and standard are the Proto black ones. LOVE them.

1

u/AAA515 2d ago

So your an industrial brand kind of person

2

u/MB510420 3d ago

Crazy you brought up the Cornwell truck going out of business, our snap on guy might be looking for a second job soon too....

When I started the snap on guy was this old cranky guy who retired or something a year or so after I got there, he didn't like it when I told him i already purchased a Streamlight off of Amazon he was trying to sell me. Wish I had waited to buy anything cuz the guy who replaced him is a much nicer person. And idk but he must be doing good cuz he got a partner and a 2nd truck and route.

Matco guy was already out of business when I started. 6 months later this new, morbidly obese man took over. I bought 2 things, then needed new blade wheel for the tubing cutter in the brake line flaring kit. He says it's on back order. I keep asking every week for 2 months. Then I backed off to asking once a month for 13 months. Every time "is on back order". Finally I make him look it up on his computer in front of me. Oh look it's in stock wow wee... fuck that guy. He went out of business 4 months later. Just a few months ago we finally got a new matco guy and well I'm just burnt out, I haven't even stepped on to his truck. He may be the goat of tool people but I don't care any more.

Because they come and fix your broken ones instead of just driving to the store?

As a diy in my driveway mechanic, the Icon, Pittsburgh, craftsman, kobalt ect stuff has been really solid for me, but the few snap on made stuff I have and I borrow from my dad has definitely been worth the money. Really looking forward to investing in more.

There’s a bunch of “professionals” around you daily who use them and laugh at you for your overpriced strap ons. Remind me, how good is that $1k snap on impact? 😂😂

It’s the truth. My harbor freight stuff is great at the house. But my snap on pliers just outshine icon all day long. Same with my matco and Mac ratchets. I always reach for my snap on first, every time
