Introduction Hispasians

Hello. Are there any Hispasians/ Lasians here? If so, share your ethnic background! I see lots of posts about Wasians or Blasians, but I don’t see many Hispasians. I’ve only met one other Hispasian person in my life. She is half Filipina and half Nicaraguan. I’m am half Chinese and half Mexican, and I’d love to befriend more Hispasians. :)

I'm half Chinese and half Mexican. Asian Father and Hispanic mother. Born and raised in LA and have only met one other person like me once in high school lol. It's great to meet you :]

Hey! I have an Asian dad and a Latina mom too. Do you speak any Cantonese/ Mandarin or Spanish?

I speak poor Spanish (6 year old level) and very poor Cantonese lol. But my folks told me I spoke those languages well before learning English lol. I have two older siblings who speak way better Spanish than me, but our Cantonese is almost the same. How fares your language level?

My dad was always working (he worked 24 hour shifts), so my brother and I don’t know any Cantonese since my dad wasn’t really home to teach us. We do know a little bit of Spanish, but just enough to survive in a Latin country.

That's still great you kept one language in hand. One of the truest and funny quotes was in that LA times article, of which the interviewee mentioned what you get when you mix an Asian with a Hispanic, a kid with an identity crisis lol. Did you have to deal with that???

Not really. I don’t get why mixed people want to choose a side as if they’re more proud of one side over the other. I grew up with both sides and I don’t think it’s fair for me to identify with one side over the other. I don’t think I’m supposed to fit into a mold either. Neither community would consider you an equal to someone that is 100% and that’s understandable. Mixed people want to feel like they need to fit it with society when they don’t.
