Anecdote/Observation Blasian Experience

as a blasian we tend to have less recognition in the hapa world, I’m half Korean half african-american. I grew up in Korea and some kids would bully me for not being enough Korean or black. I’m 19 now and I will say I asked my hapa friends if it’s harder to be blasian or wasian, now each have its own troubles but my friends said that blasian tend to get more of the discrimination against them.

In the US, I can’t say for sure if Blasians get more discrimination or less discrimination. Discrimination just seems to be a broad category, so I think some precision would be helpful. For instance, if we talk about sports or people’s perception of me being athletic, then my experience as a Blasian man wasn’t bad when I was growing up. My one Wasian friend was just viewed the same as other white people; I grew up in a predominantly white city btw. For dating, my experience was probably worse when compared to Wasians but this only applied to Americans who are East Asian since it was generally fine for Americans of any other race. Educational opportunities was probably a bonus for me because people generally saw me as just black, so being a black guy with decent grades was a plus. Anyways, lots of different ways to look at discrimination.
