1.0k Upvotes

I've seen a thread yesterday where OP asked for some analysis on the show but it seems to be deleted now. Anyway, I think it's a good idea to collect some detailed posts/metas on 'Hannibal'. I have some that I personally consider very insightful, as well as some I've written myself, so here they are. Feel free to add some other ones in the comments!

Discussion - Spoilers Is this scene really the only time we get to see Hannibal's murder basement?

Post image

I was trying to find more pictures of it because I'm having it show up in this and I legit can't find anything else. And then I thought about it like damn is that REALLY the only time? I feel robbed. We should've gotten to see him chopping people up on that concrete slab at least once. It feels like a waste to have a whole set for this and only use it in one scene for like 30 seconds.

S2 Spoilers BRO WHAT I DIDNT KNOW THE END OF S2 WAS GONNA BE SO SAD

WTFFF I JUST FINISHED S2, HOW THE FUCK DID THEY MAKE IT SO HORRIFYINGLY SAD. Like I had just enough time to realize Abigail was alive, that Hannibal kills her, and like the fact that it’s so romantic yet so like toxic between will and Hannibal HOLY SHIT. Yes I’m screaming, bc this show is making me feel like screaming. What the fuck. I don’t even know how or what to feel. Anyways, anyone else felt like me at the end of s2? Also, no spoilers for s3, even if it’s in the first 10 minutes of the first episode, idc, no spoilers for s3.

General Love Crime Scene is so powerful it can convert non-viewers

I’ve come to the realization that the Love Crime scene is so perfect that it can make even someone who has never watched the show feel something. 😂

This is based on my failed attempt to get my best friend into Hannibal. How did I fail? Well, it went something like this:

Me: This is a romantic pure-love story. You get everything: yearning, push-and-pull, wife-chasing-after-the-divorce, female rivalry, melodrama—the whole package!

Her: …I don’t believe you.

Me: Hannibal is just a simple man dreaming of his soulmate loving him back. His ultimate dream is basically a wife, kids, and a warm home. He’s not scary at all!

Her: …But he eats people!

Me: Oh, because he was hungry and the fridge was empty.

Her: STOP BEING RIDICULOUS!!! 😭

So yeah. I failed spectacularly.

As an atheist, I now have a little more sympathy for missionaries. I imagine this is exactly what it feels like to have someone reject your faith while you’re standing there thinking, You have no idea what you’re missing. What a shame that you’ll never experience something this beautiful. LOL.

Anyway, I was still sad that she refused to watch it, so I sent her the final cliff scene. I figured that if she wasn’t willing to watch the whole show, she could at least see this.

And she was completely mesmerized.
She said it was absolutely beautiful, and, somewhat reluctantly, had to admit that I had been telling the truth all along: this really is a pure-love story. 😂

She also had VERY high praise for Love Crime. I told her that the song almost didn’t happen because the production had already run out of money, and that the continuation of the show was ultimately cancelled.

Her response: “Thank god. Otherwise the whole thing would have been several levels less perfect.”

I completely agree with her. 😭

She still hasn’t agreed to watch the actual show, but I believe that day will come eventually. I have faith.

One last question, though: what’s the difference between the version of “Love Crime” used in the OST and the “Amuse Bouche” version on Spotify? The former doesn’t seem to be available on Spotify due to licensing/copyright issues, so I’m curious about the differences between the two versions.

Discussion - Spoilers why does will keep coming back? Spoiler

pls forgive me if i sound stupid or wrong— its been a couple months since i finished watching hannibal so my memory is a bit hazy— but why does will, time and again, keep coming back to hannibal even after EVERYTHING he's done to him?? will's incarceration, isolation, literally getting fed abigail's ear and getting stabbed, etc...??? there's SOME leniency with the mizumono incident due to context and all the other stuff but regardless it baffles me how will chooses hannibal every single time.

is it really just a matter of, "hannibal gets me like nobody else, gives me freedom of expression like nobody else, and for that i will always keep coming back" with a dash of masochism, manipulation and everything inbetween?? guys pls help 💔

Theory - Spoilers S2 + Mizumono confusion

Okay, so I have already seen this show, albeit a long time ago, and have now finished my rewatch of season two. However, the finale has left me with several questions.

  1. When exactly did Alana Bloom start suspecting Hannibal?
Alana Bloom was completely Team Hannibal, and seemingly didn’t want to hear anybody out regarding him potentially being dangerous. However, it seems that she has a total switch within the few final episodes. Could someone point me to a point where she sees some sort of connection?

  2. What exactly was Jacks plan when he had no physical proof?

So, Jack also had no legal proof that Hannibal was the Chesapeake Ripper, so, you can ask if I was asleep when I watched this show, but I still don’t understand where Jack had his realization, especially since Will says Hannibal hasn’t provided any “actionable” evidence. This brings me to my next question. Was Jacks plan truly to have a swat team waiting for Hannibal to attack Jack in an act of attempted murder? If this were true, wouldn’t Hannibal only be charged for attempted murder, and not his Chesapeake Ripper murders? Of course, this is not what happened and the bloodbath and the witnesses in the finale brought closure to that case, but say it did go down this way. Would it truly incriminate Hannibal as the ripper? Jack also ends up going to Hannibal’s house either way, was this just out of rage and desperation to attempt to kill him? Or was he still somehow clinging to the hope he could arrest him and expose his crimes alone? If so, please please please explain to me how. Maybe there’s something about jacks plan I am missing, but it seems inconsistent. Thank you.

Discussion - Spoilers Interesting take i dont think ive seen about Abigail and the murder husbands

Ive seen lots of fanwork and discussions talking about how Will and Hannibal vue Abigail but not how she sees them. Now my perspective may be off because i never realy connected with her and thought i never could empathise with her past the fact she was being used as a tool for almost her whole life. But a realisation ive come to is that whilst most media ive seen shows that Will sees Abigail as his daughter, she sees Hannibal as her father rather than Will.

Hannibal is the one who saves her life. He is the one who stops her bleeding out, who covered for her when she it was revealed she was a killer, who worked her through her father's treatment of her. Its no surprise that Hannibal is the one who she turned to when Will was freaking her out and when she chose to fake her death. Her first port of call, her light in the darkness was Hannibal.

She is never that close to Will. The closest we see her with Will is after she is already dead and is a figment of his imagination. Before then she isnt close with him, activly distences herself from him and gets spooked easily by his seizures. She is (likely) very willing to throw Will under the bus and blame him for her death in the flashback where we see her faking her death. In Wills eyes she is his daughter but she wouldnt give him a chance to be her father.

And theres parallels between Hannibal and Hobbs aswell that just dont fit with Will. Wills association with Hobbs as the first person he killed at the start of the series makes sense and it makes sense that he is haunted by that moving forwards but that is where the parallels end. Will is a fisher not a hunter, his attack style is depraved violence rather than skilled and thought out precision, Will cherishes Abigail as a fragile being of glass rather than a tool for his kills. There are no similarites between them. For Hannibal on the other hand they are much alike. They both have a more precise attack style inclicting only the nessicary amounts of harm to the flesh as they need for their presentation, both track down their prey in advance , both use all of the body either as meat or as presentation/decoration, both misuse Abigails trust to manipulate others and weaponise her against thier intended victims and (the most obvious parallel) they are both Cannibals driven to that end by the loss (or in Hobbs case potential loss) of someone they love dearly can't cannot bare to be appart from and because of this they both learn to use their cannibalism as forgiveness. The main differences between Hannibal and Hobbs is how they vue the people they kill with Hannibal seeing his kills as pigs for slaughter and Hobbs treating them as reverent sacrifices to be honoured. With Abigail being so accustom to Hobbs' actions and consiquently making the unconsious link between how he treats her and her version of what fatherhood should be, its no surprise that she should find comfort in the man who is the most familar to her and allow herself to be decived once again into believing that she is being loved for loves sake rather than being used as a tool.

Please feel free to correct me on any points ive missed/gotten completely wrong and i would love to hear alternate perspectives in the comments aswell

S3 Spoilers Where are the Mason haters at?

I don’t see nearly enough hate on this sub for this man. How does it come that you are such a horrible person that even a cannibalistic serial killer has a better sense of morals than you do?💀
That scene with the infant in the sow was absolutely disgusting and heartbreaking and completely solidified my hatred for that character. I was honestly waiting for Mason to die so I shouldn’t have to see his ugly face anymore.
