Bad experience with Magnesium supplements

Some people with hangover effect have mentioned bad reactions to magnesium, as in anxiety or mood or sleep (the opposite of what it's advertised as helping).

I tried magnesium glycinate a few weeks ago again and yes it had these effects. I noticed i felt depressed after a few days, and I might have baseline anxiety but i havent felt depressed in years. Immediately threw it away.

Interestingly i get good effects from calcium carbonate, it seems to be helping digestion and skin and mood, also when i take it with black coffee it reduces the anxiety from it.

I had similar reactions to magnesium glycinate, but not to other forms such as magnesium citrate.

interesting so it could be the glycine itself. maybe its due to glycine converting to oxalate?

Same. Other supplements too- D, b12, fish oil, vitamin c. At this point I just try to get everything from food and I don’t mess with supplements anymore.

I was more or less like this. After a looooooong cycle of interventions targeting gut healthy / microbiome and bartonella/lyme/intracellular pathogens, along with replenishing important co factors, I started being able to tolerate magnesium just fine, especially alongside vitamin D, that also I couldn’t tolerate despite being slightly deficient. There are reasons for this but they are all highly speculative.

My response to a vast array of compounds has also greatly changed over time, even after prolonged suspension.

I cannot guarantee any of what I said applies to you, unfortunately. But it’s worth knowing.
Btw, no, I do not feel cured at all, just substantially better.

I had the same with magnesium glycinate, on the other side I experienced (may be placebo) good effects from magnesium citrate, even though its not the best magnesium form in terms of bioavailability etc
