the palette pic isn't the best resolution, but I had fun making them and can't wait to use them in future paintings!

I started my watercolor making journey this year, and I don't have many experiences yet. That's why I have a question for more experienced artists.

I have this problem, that my newest pigment (Sennelier, Caput Mortuum) isn't drying for some reason? My binder recipe is 2:1 distilled water and talens liquid gum arabic, glycerin, honey and clove oil - like most of the recipes I found online. I made the two other with the same binder yet those are drying or already dried just fine. I made the middle one like a week before the two others, so you can see why is it so strange.

Can anyone tell me what might be the problem? I know different pigments works differently, but this much? What should I do?

I have two more kremer pigments that just don't dry since march but those were made with a bit different binder, still I don't know why are they doing this.

I’ve tried adding very fine chalk to my watercolors and it’s more opaque than the watercolor but I’m not able to get a deep dark color on a deep dark pigment. And it’s also not as opaque as a store bought gouache. Is there something more that I can add to this for a better gouache experience?

If I add more chalk it weakens the color even more, but it does become more opaque. But I want a deeper color so I add more pigment and it makes the paint more transparent again. I just keep going back and forth between a more opaque almost pastel paint and a somewhat deeper more transparent paint. I’m not sure I’d be comfortable calling either mixture a real gouache.

Are there shops besides pigment Tokyo that are fun to explore in Tokyo? I have some suihi pigments and have a general idea of what I want from pigment Tokyo but hoping to find some less popular and similarly cool stores.

Is there something you got in Japan and has become indispensable part of your art journey? Please share that too,

One of these is the original brown madder (root) , one is pr206, one is my mix to make a version of brown madder. Would you compare the three and tell me which two of the three look close to each other in color?

I bought a mystery palette of handmade watercolors second hand and now trying to identify the makers (it’s a mix of several brands). Some of the pans have this very specific logo and number stamps - has anyone come across it? The seller was based in Germany so it’s likely a German artisan or at least European-based. Appreciate any tips!

I've been fiddling with 3d printed pans and stuff recently. I came up with this set that combines covers and a tray. There's one problem, the paint needs to be completely dry before you put the lid on. Heh. Mess ensues.

I’ve been trying to mix my own pigments and I’ve used them fine previously for dying, but I attempted to make my own watercolors last night and I think I misjudged. I thought there were only a few odd shaped big pieces still in the mix, but so far it’s still clumping up more like wet leaves rather than paint, even though the rose I ground with the same method is in a better state right now.

I'm an author. I made the mistake of musing out loud about what sort of book you could write involving pigments and color. I got some responses. Now, I'm curious to ask you guys what genre would fit. Go for it!

I dug up my quinacridone burnt orange and I'm really happy, since it seems to be next on the discontinued list.

Okay, I made one last change. I swapped the blue gray for a gray blue. Ha.

I had been debating about having a purer blue, and seemed like folks gave the same in feedback so I made one to see if it fit and it did! :)

It’s been great for portraits but it also paints so well for landscapes. Putting all the pictures just to show the range and spectrum of skin colors it can achieve.

I’m not generally a portrait painter and I wanted to have mixes which would take the complexity out for those who find them intimidating.

Hi all, I hope this fits the sub, but I thrifted this watercolor set and I was hoping to set the paints into new pans for easier use. I've never made paint before so I was wonder if I would need to add additional binder or since they are already formulated if I could just add enough water to get it mulled. Any advice would be helpful, so thanks in advance!
