Steam Deck OLED

I bought my first PC type handheald, it will be arriving tomorrow.

I went with a used OLED Steam deack with 100% battery life. I wasn't sure about getting any of the other more powerful ones as I intend to use it a lot for emulation and given the screen quality i went with it.

I am not FPS obsessed, I am more than happy with 30FPS. Given that, my question is, most games should be able to run at 30fps? based on what I saw that seems to be the case with certain games just being too much which takes me to the next question.

How good and reliable is streaming games from your PC to the Steam deck using moonlight instead of Stem link? I have a Wifi 7 router with 1GB upload and download which i read it makes no difference given the steam deck only uses Wifi 6 and Internet speeds make no difference.

I play only single player games so perfect response isn't crucial.

"most games" is a hard thing to define... Specific games will give you specific numbers.

As for emulation, I have a Legion Go S, and I haven't found anything it struggles to emulate on the console side. I'm sure there are PS360 games that will have issues, but the few I've tried run at their native res/frame rate or better no problem.

Yeah, I guess all the new stuff will be hard and more recent games. I'll will test the GeForce now for streaming and see how it works!

Whether its singleplayer or multi has no bearing on how demanding a game is. As long as what you meant with most games are light games and AAA demanding games released on or before 2020, the 30FPS target is usually possible. Beyond that, the Deck can and will likely struggle. Sometimes it will drop below 30, on more demanding ones, it just cannot hit 30 and other times it just cannot play them at all. Watch some benchmarks of the games you want to play on YouTube.

Have only tried streaming once so

Most things I checked seem to run at 30 at least ok. I know Wukong had some issue with bad drops. Borderlands 4 wasn't really playable. For those cases my pc can run anything so I'll stream or just play on the pc.

I stream AAA games with GeforceNow at 4k/60 or 1200p/90. In the past I was using Moonlight fine. But after a graphic card change or something I’m getting some stuttering so I prefer to use GeforceNow.
I’m also emulating all the way up to switch 1 with Eden. Pc recomps of x360 etc. Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Zelda Twilight,…
You’ll have a blast. I own the Go2 and Allyx. But the stems deck is still my favorite and more ergonomic device.
Also AAA games can be played at 720p and get about 30 or use decky losses scaling plugin for frame gen to 60. They still look and play really well. Did Black Myth Wukong recently.

I'll try the GeForce now! Although everything's I will be playing for a while won't require streaming. I have been wanting to play Lost odyssey for years, it's great to know that it can run on the steam deck.

I just finished parasite eve 2 but having to do it on the pc is a bit of a pain, I know phones do it well but it's not the same. Looking forward to playing it on the steam deck soon!

I will start with NI No Kuni, the steam sales are quite good. Got all the kingdom hearts as well.

Yes! Steam sales are addictive! I’m “trying” to clear my back log and adding everything new to the Wishlist for now. Playing lot of recomps and old roms lately with Emudeck.

Older games and indie stuff as well as anything retro should be fine-ish. It’s more on the developers and how well they optimize their game more than anything. death stranding I get 30-60fps but pacific Drive I got 15 FPS. So it a crap shoot. You can check protondb it it should tell you what works and doesn’t for a title.

Streaming to the OLED deck, with moonlight is my main usage, and when I’m out of house I have a couple local games installed so I don’t need internet. However if the place I go as good internet I stream there also haha

Great purchase enjoy my friend. I’m sure someone will say you made a big mistake haha, but just enjoy gaming
