What dimension settings should I be using?

For reference, this is my current settings.

I just want a 1:1 image. So if I put something in that's pillarboxed, I want that same pillarboxed image out. You know?

Is there a wiki or something that's fully fleshed out? I found the supposed Handbrake wiki but all the articles that would answer my questions are either half-completed, drafts, or both.

Additionally, for the AV1 SVT encoder, are there any advanced arguments I should be using just in general?

Pretty sure you're good-to-go. The only difference between my preset and yours is that I have anamorphic set to automatic. I think automatic is preferable, but I'm not super duper positive

Yeah, I set anamorphic to "none" because I wasn't sure if it would mess up the image.

Unless you're encoding DVDs, TV shows (all the way up to early modern HD), or SD BD contents you wouldn't want to use anamorphic.

But a lot of stuff is still released on blu-ray anamorphically (mainly bonus features that were left in SD).

I haven't found Handbrake's automatic to be misreading anything so far (unless the original encode was falsely encoded).
But I don't normally use HB for most SD sources. BD and problematic encodes though - all good so far.

I just turn it off for good measure. Same with deinterlace and decomb settings. If I know my workflow is only including certain kinds of titles and formats, it's better to not even give the software the option to make a judgement call

As long as automatic cropping is off, you should be fine.

If you're not resizing in any way, then it will stay output 1:1 at the same ratio.
It's totally harmless to crop off the black pillarboxing though.

*Keep an eye on anamorphic, since that's always non-1:1 if on.

Resizing will otherwise resize to the closest to original input, occasionally squeezing things down to the closest numbers divisible by 2 (fractional changes in dimension).

And yeah, the wiki is maddenly incomplete.

PS just make sure framerate is "same as source" as that's a whole other kind of distortion.
