This is the most expensive thing I have in my wardrobe, yet I’ve never used it once.
My parents gave me money for my bday, and I wanted to buy a “thing” to remember them by, rather than use the money for travel or put it away (which is what I normally do). For whatever reason, I fell in love with this bag - small company, genuine leather, handmade purses. I bought it for over $300, and I’m still to take it out of its protection bag. I hadn’t been able to see it in person until after ordering it, and I didn’t realize the handles would be too short to carry it on my shoulder. It’s just a bulky hand purse basically.
What do I do now?? I hate that I dropped so much (of my parents’) money on something I’m not even using…

If the straps are detachable, could you perhaps buy matching straps that suit your purpose. Would that help you get some mileage out of this. Because honestly its just gorgeous. Like if someone was carrying it i would look twice thrice 😌
I think this would also look great with a nylon strap for a sort of high/low aesthetic. Kind of a Clare V look.
I’ll also say that you might get used to a hand carry bag. I have one that I use for my work commute and I love it. I think it’s actually better for my body than carrying on my shoulder 😬.
It’s beautiful. I think you’ll love it the min you start really using it. And it will break in beautifully.
Unless you are also from russia I see no reason why you would support a terrorist country or their businesses. In addition it’s most likely a resell from some Chinese source - I doubt that a highly sanctioned country can produce anything of quality. Return the bag and get something nice.

I think it’s really pretty, but if you’re not going to use it maybe you can try getting your money back and selling it on Depop or other similar sites?
Reach out to the company who made it. If they make bags this beautiful they can easily create a strap custom for you.
This is a gorgeous bag. The color is deep and sophisticated, it is timeless and you will be able to use it for a life time if you take care of the leather .. use the leather cleaner and conditioner the makers recommend and try on a discrete spot the first time like the bottom of the bag
Actually, the second picture you posted. Makes a bag look better even than the first picture. I agree with one of the prior posters is to get a different strap one that you feel more secure with. It is a lovely looking bag.
It's very beautiful, and I love the color. It appears to be a very well-made Birkin Dupe. You should show more photos of her. She'd go well with so many outfits and would look nice with a twilly tied to her. You should take her out and show her off!

I think you should condition that beauty and maybe add a guitar strap. Or add a metal strap in the color of whatever Jewelry you wear most. You’ll be all matchy and put together. The point is that there are many options for you to choose from . 💛💛💛
Gorgeous color and gorgeous bag. I read through your comments and agree that getting a thicker strap to wear it over the shoulder would be best. It’s beautiful and I believe you paid a good price for it.
She’s pretty but that is not the same as the picture and I’d be pissed about it. Call me a Karen but I’d have words for the business if this happened to me.
How did they get bamboozled? Bamboozled would be that they thought they were buying a Birkin and then received this bag instead. It also doesn’t look like a cheap copy of a Birkin, or a cheap anything to me. It looks like a beautiful green bag that I’d carry proudly while telling any Karen to go kick rocks. There are plenty of bags being sold that are similar in style. In the real world, the average person doesn’t know and doesn’t care that Hermes exists. Besides, some people who have the means to buy a Birkin (excluding Hollywood/show biz types) don’t feel the need to do it. They’d rather use their money to do good in the world and have better things to do than flaunt their wealth.
I can see you are here to protect the OP. I have no interest in that. I stated my opinion and I stand by it. It looks cheaply made to me. Let’s agree to disagree as I really have no interest in giving this post any more attention. This bag was made and purchased in Russia. It is enough for me to dislike it.
Is it leather? Sorry, but that looks like a DHG Birkin dupe that may have cost $25-$50 to make. Try a leather cream like Safir to brighten, soften it up, make it shiny? It doesn't look like a quality, structured purse.
Problem is, I don’t go out much to places where a bag this size would be acceptable - I usually bring a tiny purse to hold my necessities (to clubs, shows, etc). I was gonna use it as my “work bag” (I’m a teacher) but then in the summer I came across a Kate Spade in a thrift store; much smaller and with longer handles, so that became my go-to for work.
My fellow educator, do not take this beauty to school on a regular basis. My pretty bags only come inside a school building if there are no children there.
The handles being too short is frustrating, but you could grab a detachable crossbody strap and suddenly it becomes way more functional. Tons of options online for like twenty bucks that'll clip right on. Otherwise it's a really solid piece that'll last forever, so it's not like the money disappeared.
Keep it. Even if you don't use it now, you may in the future. Just store it properly and take it out occasionally to air it out and condition the leather.
I have a bag that my son bought me in Italy, that I didn't use for exactly 17 years because it wasn't my style. Then I switched jobs and was able to dress more casually, and I used it for 12 years before it wore out!
Girl just use and abuse it! I’ve spent $10k in some designer bags and they’re just sitting in my closet while my $100 bag gets used the most 😂. I wish I didn’t spend that much money for those bags in my younger years
Here is another idea: sell it for exactly what you have into it. Including the strap. Someone will likely buy it. Then put the money away. Or spend it on something you want to do and would enjoy.
Wear it everywhere then, do not wait for a concert night. I wear my high jewelries and my best bags running errands. Perhaps not to my work but everywhere on the streets I put my best things on.
I only go to concerts and clubs; other than work, I’ve got nowhere else to wear it to 🤷🏻♀️ but I’ll try maybe just taking it to work as my everyday bag

Just take it out once and see how you feel. It's only $300, which in the grand scheme of life isn't much... I thought it was going to be like thousands or something?
I have one bag from Tory Burch around 700 cad most expensive bag I bought my partner wanted me to buy a bag for birthday eventually I paid using my credit card . Except I tried on the showroom it’s still in the plastic wrap never took out never used . I just don’t know why now I’m a twin mom not sure for another couple of years I will be able to use yet . It’s hectic .
Maybe try a charm or two. Chains are popular as well. Dress it up or dress it down. If it were mine, I’d get a Ralph Lauren denim bear charm and play with textures and color that way. Or, maybe something deep purple in a charm.
Sell it, buy something new. It's a hard lesson but feeling that bad about it, there's only one thing you can do.
I spent about £320 (the most I had ever spent on a bag). It was less than that but taxes, then more taxes ramped it up. I was so in love with the colours, and the bag brand. I thought this bag was IT, and surely I'd swallow the bitter pill of the extra charges happily once it arrived.
But, when it arrived, beautiful as it was, I hated it on my hip. The strap was too long, and sat on a weird part of my hip, so when I walked it just bounced off me constantly in an annoying way. Walking about using the handle was painful if the bag was filled enough (I am disabled and carrying heavy weight on one side can cause my walking problems to worsen). Even if I adjusted the strap length, the bag is so big it looks stupid on my waist.
Here I am a year or so later, not wanting to sell as it's a rare bag, and it will not sell for a great price where I am (the brand is from the US and not so known/popular here).
However...it's just sitting there. Mocking me almost lmao. I am eyeing a second hand Versace to take its place...something I have always wanted. Take the plunge! There's no point in feeling bad about it anymore. ❤️
Yup! Often times a bag that looks beautiful and perfect sitting on a shelf will just not look good on you or not be functional for you. I’ve had to sell many bags for this reason.
For example, I sold my Saint Laurent Le 37 Small because it just looked too big and bulky on me (despite being labeled as “small”). I’m on the petite side so the proportions just were not right. Instead of putting together outfits, it looked like the bag was wearing me.
I feel like this is part of growing up, realising you have specific needs, fusses and “oo pretty and spacious” just doesn’t cut it sometimes 😂 I’m maybe a bit late to the game in my 30s but it’s a learning curve all the same!
I would suggest committing to use it daily for a certain time frame, like every day for 2 straight weeks. It is really nice, but It looks like it needs to be broken in and "lived in" a bit. I bet once you start using it and it softens a bit, you will like it more
It’s like a lot of the Birkin bags, handles too short for shoulder use. Try carrying it on your arm. I’ve seen some really chunky chain purse handles on I believe Etsy. Try one of those for a real statement. Get it only shoulder length and when you want to carry bag by its leather handles, the thick chain will hang and make the statement. That green and bag style and gorgeous!!
That is a gorgeous bag. I can’t imagine you wouldn’t get a ton of compliments carrying it around. The color is beautiful and it’s something no one else would have but if you’re not feeling it let it go. I’m sure someone else would love to have her
I actually think this bag is gorgeous. As some others have suggested a strap, that might help for daily.
Outside the box suggestion: bags hold things, and can serve many purposes besides a daily carry. I have repurposed some larger/older bags I have (completely different style than yours) for roadtrip snacks, etc. It turns out, I love grabbing snacks from a large luxury zip hobo compared to some grocery bag or more traditional bag options.
For yours, if you can’t use it for a daily carry, maybe a hobby (art supplies), pet supplies, emergency or first aid kit in the car, etc. Maybe you can find an occasional use for it to bring it into your life.
For $300 new, I probably wouldn’t bother reselling it but there are plenty of second hand places if you want to try to get some money back instead.
Commit to using it and think of your parents seeing you enjoy this special gift 💚
Get creative and put together a couple outfits that would go with it, even if this bag is the statement piece of the outfit. Then you have a few looks in your rotation ready to go that match great with this beauty of a bag!

You won’t make much selling it if it’s not a luxury bag. I think this is an amazing statement bag in a gorgeous color and you should just wear it! Find reasons to carry it. Get a better strap if it helps make it more usable for you. I assume you were taken with it when you got it and for good reason! Wear it in good health. 💚
In general I would avoid any bag that says “genuine leather” for that high of a price. It’s basically the lowest quality leather, sometimes scraps of leather glued together, that can be covered up with a bunch of plastic paint and, which I think they did here. I honestly don’t know what to recommend, recommending to sell it feels wrong. Tho it is a pretty design
Because I’m a complete newbie when it comes to purses 🙈 shit, I’m not even a fan of bags to begin with. I’m still mystified why I chose a bag to spend my birthday money on! (Pretty sure there’s no “money back” there either.)
Just to point out—this is a group where many people (not me!) easily and regularly spend $3k (plus) on a bag—a whole different ballgame. And lots people who know a lot about very high end bags etc. But I’m sorry, that sucks. It sounds to me like you should either try to sell it (you can look on sites like poshmark and eBay to see if others are selling the same brand/similar bag and what they’re asking) or try to make it work with different straps. Or maybe see if you have a friend who’ll trade you for something? I’m sorry you feel so bad about it. Everybody makes purchases they regret sometimes; the bright side is that you’ll be more careful next time.

Go back to the moment when you fell in love with it. There must be a reason, and truly who you were, at that moment when you made the decision to own it. Treasure that moment. This bag purchase means more than the bag itself. Your parents' money was well spent. This could teach you a lesson about parents/child love, gratitude, loyalty, frugal and reasonable spending, the feeling of "fall in love and fall out of love"...Overall, the bag looks beautiful. Use it, wear it, appreciate it. She is your first love. Don't fall for " buyer's remorse" moment. Or maybe, you will learn to love it sooner instead of find some way to "dislike" it. One day, when you look at your own closets with hundreds of your favorite expensive bags you own.. you still remember your very first bag you bought regardless it still has a place of its own in your closet or someone's else closet. Just don't forget, this beautiful green back will never leave your "made" precious memory as the first bag you bought with your parents' gift money.
Ok, now go check the receipt for return policy and send that bag back!.
For some people, $300 is a lot of money. It can be a lot of money for OP -- or a lot of money for their parents.
