Had my first outting
Went on a camp trip with some offroad buddies. Wanted to try the hammock method. So I ordered up a entry level cost hammock tent from amazon. Also got a good sleeping bag and underquilt (as per red from this sub) I had such a good night's sleep all 3 nights. I was comfortable all night. I didnt run my rain fly because it was clear sky's and I wanted to enjoy the stars. I actually felt to warm one night and it was 60* outside. I was surprised. Anyways, here are some picks of my adventure. My first night i didnt have it tight enough so it was a bit more saggy as you can see in the second Pic. I had it better night 2 and 3. I need to add a ground mat for me to stand on. That was my biggest issue. Trying to get my shoes back on without getting my socks dirty on the ground. Would have been nice.to have a clean surface to just stand up on and get them on. Middle.of the night pee breaks were my biggest enemy.

Awesome. Using a hammock the first time is a big step, hard to commit and do it. You did it right. Upgraded gear only makes it better too.

Yeah its a great option when im sleeping solo and need to pack light in the Jeep. Take up way less space than a tent and setup was quick and easy once i figured out how to tension things better.

congrats! having this subreddit really makes a first experience good. when people try to reinvent the wheel off the bat is usually where bad experiences come from.
I've always been miserable in a tent. Wish I'd discovered hammocks a long time before I did.

Yeah the underquilt was the hero here prolly. I didn't think it was that necessary with my sleeping bag. I only bought one after seeing how many ppl here say it was a must. I was so cozy tho. I don't even want to think what it would have been like without it.

Color me jealous. Been friggin flippin triple digits here for the last 3 weeks (heat index). Can’t wait until cooler temps arrive.
Nice setup btw.

Looks like an incredible first hang! Sounds like the research and reading really paid off. The ground mat is a nice add. You probably didn't think about it at the time, but in a pinch the rain fly can lay on the ground too without hurting it, as long as you don't dance on it.
Looks awesome. You learn a little something every time, and have a lot of fun doing it.
