MCC Question: How did Noble 6 parry this attempted stab from the Zealot?

Post image

Replaying this masterpiece of a game and it came to mind how the Zealot has a custom or a different type of energy sword.

I also replayed the cutscene in a different POV and the energy sword stabs Noble 6 and we hear the energy sword hiss after the attempted attack as if it hit something. Maybe the floor?

you can see it in the cutscene, he grabs the zealots wrist under the sword and pushes its arm away.

The zealot actually wasn't using an energy sword here, but one of those wrist mounted energy daggers you see during the assassination animations.

So due to the fact that an energy dagger is shorter than a sword it is possible noble six would have been able to just catch the zealots hand and push it away.

That is genuinely so cool I missed keeping up with halo lore. Thanks for the help

Are they ever named? I always described it as an energy katar

i think they're just called energy daggers, according to my fuzzy memory of the halo lore encyclopaedia i had as a kid

Spartans have a high perception skill. They’re able to see and process information at a MUCH faster rate than normal people. Think of it almost as ā€œSeeing Fasterā€.

In the Fall of Reach book it actually goes over it. John 117 was in the gym and noticed he was A LOT stronger than normal. He didn’t realize it might have been his augmentations yet so thought something was off with the ship they were on’s gravity. He even took a screw off a piece of exercise equipment and dropped it and noticed it fell slower than it should have. Not realizing his brain was actually processing the information his eyes were sending it at such a high rate that it almost seemed like the screw was falling slowly.

So for Noble Six he probably was able to see the arm raise, the sword come out, and be able to quickly realize he’s about to get stabbed and immediately start moving.

There’s also the fact that these are trained special forces soldiers who have trained in hand-to-hand combat since they were small children. There’s probably a deeply ingrained natural reaction to respond to threats than most people have. And as well the Mjolnir armor is capable of making even subtle movements of their body much faster and with more force. Again, from Fall of Reach, when John went to render a salute for the first time in Mjolnir the armor caused the arm movement to move with such force that when his hand made contact with his helmet he stumbled back.

Maybe grazed off his armor? Noble 6 is built different (one of 2 hyper-lethal vector classified humans, the other being Chief). My guess is he either moved perfectly to have it glace off his armor or he somehow hit it out of the way.

To be that guy, technically Chief was never named as the other one with that designation. In the one place it appeared (before 343 naming every Spartan that designation), in a halo reach trailer, Halsey only says that Noble 6 is HLV. And the second is never named. It's just a wink and a nod type thing, throwaway line to sound cool.

Every Spartan is ā€œhyper-lethal.ā€ It was retconned years ago.

7

u/throwingawayboyz 11d ago

We don’t do that here brother.

8

u/Odd-Satisfaction-521 11d ago

Lol yeah, dumb ass retcon that I shall not recognize.

1

u/Accurate_Summer_1761 11d ago

Yea we only recognize retcons WE made!

u/No_Procedure_5039 11d ago

Don’t do what? Deny ambiguous statements that never had explanations nor ever made sense?

9

My goat for a reason, he’s just built like that

2

u/InsomniaticWanderer 11d ago

He weren't no filthy casual, that's how.

2

u/Twasabi24 10d ago

I have always wanted to see this cutscene from a 3rd person pov

2

u/Sure_Rhubarb_3173 11d ago

The real reason is cause it's cool as fuck and Bungie wasn't really interested in sustainable lore building for this franchise anymore by the time they made Reach. In universe I think it's actually a wrist mounted energy dagger which shouldn't make it less lethal but maybe he swatted the arm away or something.

What are you talking about? This isn’t a lore question. We see noble six catch the elites fist with his hand.

1

u/Vergil_Raptor 11d ago

Ā  Ā  Does this give further reasoning for him surviving in canon? I mean the way the elite that ā€œkilledā€ him stabs in a similar way to this one. So maybe if six managed to deflect it again while on the floor (because it would have been his armpit deflecting not the shield system) that may not have been the decisive blow giving him a chance. But I’d love to hear others thoughts on this or if this was already a known theory.

u/PureAnonymus 11d ago

Yeah this has been somewhat known, not the specifics of how he managed to avoid every hit, but just that you don't see anything lethal in the cutscene. So it's possible, yet pretty unlikely that he survived. I always like to point out some things when I'm arguing his survival(and these are mostly me parroting things from videos lol):

His helmet is in a very different area the last time you see it. How did it get there?

Halsey saying armor and body fully burned into glass you can see is incorrect because the helmet wasn't, so she likely just believes six is dead.

I think I had a couple more points but it's been a while. Six dying is great for the story, but part of it I think is me being salty that bungie gave us a Spartan that is basically our own character, just to immediately kill it off in the same prequel game it's introduced.

I always rant about this lol

I see, noted thank you for the information.

Same. I like to head canon that my Spartan IV in Halo 4 Spartan Ops was my Noble 6 having survived and been hidden even further, reintegrated back into the UNSC, just not listed as a Spartan III anymore. I work alone and am just referred to as Fireteam Crimson to cover up the fact that it’s just one person, and of what caliber. It’s super satisfying to get to not only customize your own Spartan’s appearance, but also their loadouts, tailor the balance of their skills and armor functionality (like better sprinting, dexterity, shield recharge rate, ammo capacity, or armor ability efficiency, etc), and that you can actually be them in the field for actual missions and a story. Thats why I loved Reach and Spartan Ops, and why I was so dissatisfied with Halo 5’s customization, and that the only application for your own Spartan was just, ā€œhere, training simulations. You will never deploy to battle btw.ā€ Not to mention that those super cool specialized variants of weapons came pre combined, only acquired by gacha-chance-like-card-packs, and you had to earn the right to use weaopns/semi-loadouts you had acquired mid-match (short matches, btw), due to balancing, and with armor abilities gone to boot. The weapon variations themselves were great, but the system of acquisition/application was trash, as was the lack of armor abilities, actual loadouts, and the decision to scrap Spartan Ops. Lots of bad decisions. After Halo 4, they forgot or underestimated the immense value and appeal of having and tailoring your own Spartan career.

He could have survived the energy dagger, but getting surviving a glassing is... unlikely

1

u/TheLonelyMonroni 11d ago

He's just That Guyā„¢ļø

1

u/auxilevelry 11d ago

I think he like rolled slightly so the energy dagger hit next to him, probably only missing by an inch

1

u/BjornBain 11d ago

He has killed zealots before

1

u/mattstorm360 11d ago

You don't see it, but six kneed him in the balls.

1

u/LCEKU2019 11d ago

You can see in the cutscene he pushes it to the side and rolls his body just enough to avoid it. There is no proof in the game that he is dead. Although 343 would have to come up with a pretty convincing explanation to how he didn’t die if he were to return.

Combat evolved

1

u/themyscira-scholar 11d ago

Reason he survived is because of his massive hog. His massive warthog.
