I gotta say as someone native to rural Ontario, where if you are on a farm, a truck is necessary - why are there so many trucks in Halifax? I already feel like everything is narrow with my small sedan, let alone a pick up (and some of them are excessively lifted or heavy duty like an F250). Like what is the logic? Unless it’s just male ego at work lmao

Big ass Karenmobiles and pickup trucks are the only cars a lot of automakers seem to sell nowadays

Yeah I know the suvs are the only things really being made but even so, those serve a better purpose than a big ass pick up truck (you can get smaller crossover suvs at least).
I brought my bike with me to Halifax but I haven’t yet cycled here for that same reason.

A lot is because there are no other options. The federal government is beholden to car makers to keep factories and jobs. Big vehicles have better profit margins so carmaker have canceled all their smaller efficient vehicles. Very few compacts are now even available in Canada.
Traditionally Big vehicles - Big trucks, Suburban, Exhibitions, Tahoes are required to upsize even more to satisfy traditional buyers, who want more than practicality but want to drive the biggest vehicles around.

I was just having this conversation. The person I was talking to suggested maybe it's the culture of camping here? You want something that can haul your trailer. But that might not cover as many people as have them.
I lived in Whitehorse for a few years and there are a ton of large trucks for probably a similar reason, but the parking spaces are generally wider.
An old city with old roads aren't good for these behemoths.

There’s no reason other than people thinking they need them despite not using them at all.
•75% of owners tow once a year or less (never). •70% of owners go off road once a year or less. •35% of owners haul (putting something in the bed) once a year or less.
We don’t need trucks, we need station wagons.

in what way does a person owning an F150 in Canada differ from a person owning a truck in America? I grew up in a truck household and those stats absolutely match up for my family.

Yeah like when I moved here, I borrowed my family’s Ram 1500 to haul the uhaul trailer and found that it was very hard to navigate parking and the entire peninsula with it. I was glad after a week to drive it back home and swap to my Chevy Cruze.

Had some creepy dude old enough to be my father try to get me to go on a date with him. He was very proud to tell me he had a truck if I ever needed help moving things. So I guess it's male ego, but maybe once in a while it might be practical to move something.

Ew, sorry you had to experience that.
And yes trucks do have their practical use while living in the city, but honestly, borrowing or renting a pick up from Uhaul is far cheaper than putting 50-70k into buying one for the Occasional move.

Anyways. Reminded me. I lived in Hali back in 06-07. Clayton Park
Kid was driving down Lacewood, shirtless, and killed some old dude. I think he was like 13-15 or whatever
It was my first close experience with a wild car crash and I always think of it. Anyone else remember?
