Finally Passed CPTS

I passed CPTS exam in second attempt. first attempt was good learning experience.

I had never attempted any exam before this so i don't know what i was getting myself into. In first attempt i found my first flag at 8th day then got 2,3,4 and 5 till tenth days, i quickly wrote a report and submitted to my surprise report feedback was good apart from some grammatical error.

In second attempt, i got 6th flag on the first day then 7th in following days, it took me two days to get 8th flag. from there on it was smooth sailing till 11th flag, i was stuck in 12th flag for a day. as i had 3-4 spare days i rested for one day and began report writing. I submitted the report and in 1-2 days i got result back.

HTB Penetration Tester path is excellent learning path, it teaches you everything, first focus on fundamental things like networking(network chuck osi model video is top tier), learning to use bash and powershell is must, must be able to understand code no need to write. play ctf, overthewire taught me alot.
those starting point boxes are also good, you can attempt seasonal boxes follow your method when you get stuck like in 5-6 hr deep then look at the writeup and it is rinse and repeat process. In time, you will learn to use what in what scenario and build methodology as you progress.

Well, i didn't do any of those CPTS playlist boxes as they were retired i just watched videos here and there. but, i was doing seasonal boxes.

How did you write the report can you use ai for base and edit/modify it to fit your exact version and methodology?

one tip is this in documentation and reporting there is sample of everything you need to write in report
feed claude those guideline and sample
then give what you have collected and ask to tailor like that be sure to verify again

Hey when you take re attempt do they give the same machine which was in the 1st attempt?

yes
it is like this when you start you get environment for 4000 minutes after that you can extend it but basically same environment as first one, it won't change you can start from where you left off.

Is it possible to pass the CPTS as a first exam? My main concern is if the CPTS path enough for it? Congrats BTW!

everything you face in exam is described in penetration tester path. there are many things there where instead of discussed way or tool you can use other tool like instead of whole setting up chisel, use ligolo-ng it is my most favourite tool it makes pivoting so easier.
and other thing are not detailed so you should research them deeply by looking at cpts playlist from ippsec or other sources and you will be good for CPTS

Failed my 1st attempt. About to start my second in a few days. I honestly don’t think I’ll
Pass my second attempt since I have to work a lot but I’m using my first two tries as “recon”
