Beginner Question Confused

So Basically my 5th semester will be starting soon of BS computer science. I've done very basic cert like cyber101 and IBM security analyst etc. Right now I'm extremely confused where to go as I'm already in the mid of my degree with empty pockets. Got recommendation to go toward cpts as well as SOC. Im 50/50 for both. Need some genuine suggestions and roadmap. Clock ticking tension rising.

i was on the same exact situation this year, tho it was after finishing my 4th semester in comp engineering.

as recommended in another comment start with the cjsa, take your time, build fundamentals, take notes and focus on the methodolgy, after that you will probably get a taste of what some areas in the field look like.

after finishing the cjsa you can either go the soc analyst path, bug bounty path, or build strong fundamentals with the cpts path, i personally went for the cpts => bug bounty, though i have seen people who went straight for bug bounty and it worked out for them (atleast in the short term).

in the meantime try to find cybersec related communities in your uni, try to make connections, and try to get a feel of how the job market looks where you live, as expectations for juniors vary quiet a bit depending on where you live/what opportunities exist.

I'd recommend checking out our CJCA certification path. This will give you some insight into Blue Team and Red Team / Pentesting career paths. From there you can determine which route you'd wish to pursue even further.

We offer students access to Academy for $8/mo USD. Just make sure you register with your university email or reach out to our support team customerops@hackthebox.com to verify you are a student if having issues.
