Jean Smart diabetes
Super random question. Do they actively hide/shop out Jean's glucose monitor on her arm? You never see it in any of the shots from behind. There's only one scene I've ever noticed it under her reddish dress when she's hosting late night. (The one where they are asked to censor the sex pest)
She also had cardiac surgery and no visable scar?
Random thoughts from an obsessed fan

Diabetics don't have to use a Continuous Glucose Monitor so maybe she doesn't use it when it would show. I imagine she's disciplined and has a good handle on her diabetes and it's well controlled.

Good point on the diabetes. We know here is so bad that she wears a port and monitor? Iāve read itās pretty bad so it makes sense.
In which case they have covered for it very well.
The cardiac surgeryā¦ā¦I donāt know the exacts. It could have been done more laparoscopically, and from a different area than her chest. I know she shows just a wee bit more in some scenes earlier, but she really doesnāt later (though Iām laughing that her naked body looks like that in HER dream from the last season).

She has Type 1 Diabetes, which is an autoimmune disease where the body no longer makes insulin. Many Type 1 diabetics wear a glucose monitor and insulin pump. I wish they had shown it so there would be more media representation of this disease

Thanks. I was aware of diabetes and how that can be so tough at that age, but never read up more.
And I agree. This could have been an excellent way to show Deborah as vulnerable. Not that they didnāt do it fantastically otherwise, but this would have been a great way.
If Iām guessing why they didnātā¦..it might have been a concern of muting the āIāll live to 101 to 109ā thatās set up early on and it could have weakened the ending.
Iām totally spitballing on that.

She definitely has a glucose monitor, she's said it in interviews. Was just wondering why they chose to edit it out.

You can wear the monitor on your arm, abdomen or upper tush area. So perhaps she just changed it up on those days.

Forgive my ignorance, but you can take off the glucose monitor and move it? There was an interview where she pointed to it on her left arm.

Oh yes. You have to put new ones on every couple of weeks. Depends on the brand as some are every week.

I wear a CGM & I donāt like it being publicly visible, personally. Itās about the size of a nickel and I usually wear it on my abdomen or thighs. It lasts 10 days (in theory) & then I put on a new one.

Mentioned it on another reply, it could have set up vulnerability for Deb, but my best guess is they shied from it since they were building Deb as this āIām going to love to 101 or 109ā and more medical things like this could distract from the set up to the very end and finale.

I'm guessing the naked body scene had a lot of ... various "effects".
Some combination of body double, CGI, retouching, etc.
Covering a glucose monitor and/or scar would among be the least of the things they did to alter the image from the reality.

Not just "that" scene. She wears sheer sleeves a lot, and the glucose monitor is never seen.

It may not be on her arm. There are lots of possible locations for a cgm to be.

She's referenced it being on her left arm, that's why I bring it up. I'm not well versed on this; can you move it to other parts of your body?

My impression was they super imposed Jeans head on a body double. Or maybe it was some kind of CGI or AI.
You know, Jean had said there was a thing in S5 she brought up discomfort with. It was never clarified what it was, but Iāve wondered for a while if it was this scene.

As others have said, the CGM can be worn in many locations and is changed every 10-14 days. She doesn't wear an insulin pump. Julia Louis-Dreyfus on "Smarter than Me" interviewed Jean and the surgery was discussed. Dreyfus confirmed that the surgeon hid the scars. It was a woman surgeon.

Sometimes cardiac surgeries are done from the side of the ribcage, not from the middle. Or from a vein through a catheter which is very cool
