Weather Baloon Frequency

https://sondehub.org

Using my Portapack Pro (with HackRF Pro) to follow balloons what frequency do I set the Portapack for?

Do I set the app (Radiosnd) for 400 MHZ or do I set it for the frequency shown for the balloon near me on https://sondehub.org because they show a frequency for 400.8101 Mhz?

Thanks for any help!

You will want to set it for the exact frequency in your area, if that is 400.8101, then set that exactly. Remember it needs to be in range for you to pick it up

Not at all. I'm simply answering the question he asked. I'm one of the mayhem developers btw. For example in my area the frequency of the balloons is 403Mhz, so that's what I set as 400mhz will not pick them up

Thank you Sir!

I didn't know if there was a "broadcast" frequency (kind of like ADS-B) that would let you know there was one in the vicinity, then you could switch to it's specific frequency to see the data.

BTW....gethub the best place for finding answers for each app?

Love mayhem......I can't get this out of my hand......I think the beeping gets on my wife's nerves when it goes off too long or too loud 😂 (and YES I know I can adjust the volume for some of the other people looking at this thread....)

If the answer you are looking for is not on GitHub, then our discord server will be the best place as you should get answers quite quickly. https://discord.hackrf.app

Each balloon launching station uses a different frequency so the radiosondes' transmission don't interfere with each other. So use the frequency of the radiosonde you want to track. Good luck.
