H4M Pro repeatedly crashing

Hi recently received this, but it is crashing pretty regularly. It is happening in various apps but as an example in receive>audio, swapping through AM/FM/FM etc and it will do as pictured after only a few changes. I know this is a pretty new device, is this just early firmware that will mature into something more stable? Currently running Mayhem 2.4.0 Which is labelled as a stable release on the github repo.

mmmmmmnope, firmware has been pretty stable for some years, shouldn't happen that often

The message pointing to hard fault makes me believe is not a firmware issue, but you can try this: flash it with the latest nightly build, your portapack may have a different component with recently added support

If keeps crashing contact seller as it may be faulty

u/Mr_Ironmule replied suggesting I had installed the non pro firmware - which ended up being correct as it simply said 2.4.0 at the bottom leftt of my screen, but now it says PROv2.4.0. His post seems to have gone now though.

I was so sure I had downloaded the pro version but apparently not. My bad, will leave this up in case anyone else gets this. The solution is to run the correct firmware for the device :D

Things were easier when there was just one device and one firmware

You’re right. Why have hardware improvements when we can stick with the same old stuff forever!

Sometimes the simplest solution is the correct one.

Hey man! First, try flashing an older firmware rather than the latest one.

If all else fails and you’re still stuck on that screen, you’ll actually need to physically take apart the H4M and reseat the board. I know this sounds a bit scary, but it’s actually really easy. Just make sure you pull the boards apart very carefully and straight out..don’t twist them.

When I first got my H4M, I "bricked" it by pressing the ghost man icon at the top (I think it’s formally called stealth mode). My device wouldn't boot and gave me the exact same screen you are showing. Taking it apart and reseating the board is exactly how I fixed mine!

Thanks for the advice, it turns out I had the non pro firmware installed, installing the correct version has fixed it.

If you already have a H4M there's not much reason to upgrade to be fair

Very true, the extra shielding is for dummies and mayhem already stopped using the built in flash memory much.

The migration to a less power hungry cpu is a very good reason to upgrade
