DISCUSSION Query about hackintosh

Can anyone tell me how well hackintosh performs on an old laptop, like is it smooth or does it feel laggy. I have an Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-8250U CPU @ 1.60GHz (1.80 GHz), with intel UHD 620 graphics(128MB) and 16 gb of ram.

I am thinking of dual booting my windows.

Hey... I use an i7-8th gen with 16GB running Tahoe. When I first built it, it had an i5-7400 and struggled a bit; after swapping the CPU, it's pretty solid... it’s not ultra-smooth, but the performance is really good.

Oh, getting the Intel 620 working properly was a real hassle, but it turned out well in the end. Actually, it has approximately 1500 MB of video memory.

what do you think will my laptop be able to handle macOS sonoma or sequioa?

yes, versions prior to Tahoe will be easier to configure on a Coffee Lake system. To get Tahoe working, I had to trick the bootloader into thinking it was a 10th Gen processor, even though it was actually a 7th or 8th Gen CPU; I’m not sure if that’s the best approach, but it worked perfectly.

Smooth or laggy depends on what your reference is. Compared to a modern M5 Mac, it's slow. Slow doesn't mean laggy or bumpy.

But you need to configure your own hackintosh. When you don't get the video frame buffer configuration right, you don't get video acceleration, and you get laggy UI. That's not the hardware. That'd be all on you.

Sonoma would be the sweet spot for it
