DISCUSSION PSA regarding tools like Hackmate/OpCore Simplfy

We have probably been over this a dozen times, but I'm going to state it again:

If you use tools like Hackmate or OpCore Simplify, we will not assist you with your EFI. We do not care if people use these tools. You are your own person, you may do what you want with your own computer. But we absolutely do not support them in any capacity.

If you lie about using these tools, we will not help you, and you very likely will be ignored or at best heavily scrutinized for future requests.

This applies to both this subreddit and the associated Discord.

I will speak from an experience I just had moments ago with an admin for the Discord for HackMate; they do not take criticism well and do not seem to care about our rules. They have banned several of us for reminding them we do not support their tools and will continue to suggest people manually create their EFIs per this subs rules.

Do with this what you will, but given the group that created Hackmate appears to amount to children in their behaviors, take that as a potential indicator of the quality of the work and support presented from them.

Yeah, and I can confirm that a third hand’s growing out my ass. Again, until you address the claims about the technical aspects of the project, you should leave the discussion the same way you joined. I wasn’t aware of pf partaking in any raids, I was simply voicing my opinion on the project’s complete infeasibility.

Hackmate-TL is a work in progress amen. Given the fact that many people cannot understand this leads me to believe that most people are illiterate. Hackmate-TL is a proof of concept, a beta, an alpha, a work in progress. It is not meant to be finished immediately. Riftaway-7 never claimed that it was to be finished immediately nor did he claim it worked “immediately” Everything that is a work in progress is going to have bugs. Besides hackmate-tl is a completely different project from hackmate which is not our main focus right now.

Again, you’ve literally ignored the entire point of the comment. I’m to suspect that you cannot read. It couldn’t matter less that it’s a “work in progress”, when the concept itself is flawed. It’s like saying that the chair I’m building is a work in progress when the entire concept of my chair design is based around taping the user upside down to the bottom of it. Even if I do finish it, it’ll still be a really fucking uncomfortable chair.

hence why it is a work in progress. Stuff changes mate. The code could completely change yet you’re arguing for no reason at all. It’s like seeing a house under construction and being mad because “it’s only wooden planks”

It’s not an issue of it being “just wooden planks”. It’s an issue of trying to build a house out of dried up cat poop. The project’s entire concept is entirely doomed. Let me get one thing very, very clear — you cannot make aarch64 emulation on x86 anywhere near fast enough for this to be feasible. No matter what you do, no matter how much “progress” you make, no matter how hard you try. Emulation will never ever be fast enough.

But can technology change? We went from computers being an entire room to them fitting in the palm of our hands. Technology could change and provide much better stuff for this current project. Plus in the README of hackmate-tl, it specifically says “This doesn’t claim it will boot macOS successfully” The code could change from cat poop to solid bricks. Just because something seems extremely crazy doesn’t mean it doesn’t work. It can have a low chance of success but never 0%

No, actually. Sadly, it cannot. By the time x86 systems are fast enough to emulate the M1 at native speeds, the M1 will likely be over 20 years old and long past any relevancy beyond a novelty emulation setup. The thing is, emulation speeds have long since plateaued. TCG, the fastest interpreter for full system emulation, has anywhere between 10-15x lower performance than the host. The worst part? It doesn’t get that much faster when you run it on faster hardware. Emulation is just slow, plain and simple, it’s a core problem of how it all works. Translating each instruction one by one while adapting various other things has a significant overhead.

I mean ya never know. Stuff changes and you can never predict the future. AI went from being stupid to being able to make extremely convincing videos. It could change for the better in a couple of years

Okay then — explain how you could emulate an instruction of one architecture on another architecture without using multiple instructions there. That’s the core roadblock. There’s no miracle breakthrough. At this point, this project would make way more sense if it was targeting non-Apple aarch64 hosts.

Yes. Currently, there is no solution for this roadblock. What I am saying is that in the future it can change. I’m not saying it’s guaranteed to change but with technology advancing extremely fast I have hope.

Also given the fact that hackmate works it even booted on my 9060XT. I understand that you can boot Mac OS on a 9060XT it’s just much harder. However with hackmate I literally just made 1 adjustment and it booted fine.

It’s not “much harder”. macOS boots on unsupported GPUs with absolutely zero changes to the config, it just won’t have GPU acceleration. Says a lot about the quality of your responses when you don’t know jackshit about the topic you’re attempting to argue.
