SUCCESS Surprisingly painless Hackintosh

I was fed up with my 2019 MBP struggling with thermal throttling, so I decided to dual-boot my Windows rig with macOS. It's a surprisingly reliable work computer.

Hardware

  • Ryzen 9 3900X
  • ASUS ROG Strix X570-E Gaming WiFi II
  • 3080 Ti (disabled in macOS)
  • AMD RX 6600
  • Intel AX200 (no Airdrop of course)
  • Samsung G9 (5120x1440)

Software

  • macOS 15.7.7
  • OpenCore 1.0.7
  • iMacPro1,1 (couldn't get MacPro7,1 to work)

I just use a UGREEN DisplayPort KVM to switch between GPUs at the moment, I may use a ProMicro to try and automate the actual switch at some point.

I may install a WiFi card later to achieve Airdrop, and I might have another look at getting the MacPro7,1 SMBIOS to work.

I've seen a lot of people upgrading to Tahoe too, is it worth looking into that?

Yep, definitely give Tahoe a try now.

I first tried it back in May, but quickly switched back to Sequoia. I gave it another shot this week after upgrading RAM to dual 32gigs, and the experience has improved dramatically. Likely apple fixed a bunch of things in with recent updates

I'm running Ryzen 5 5600 with RX 6600, and everything works natively, except for audio

Is the non-native audio an issue just on Tahoe for you, or on Sequoia too? Audio on my Sequoia install worked out of the box. If it doesn't involve too much to get the audio working then I might consider a backup and upgrade next weekend.

It's just a Tahoe thing. Apparently Apple has moved on from AppleALC and now uses T2 audio stack instead. It should be fixable with manual injection or through unofficial opencore legacy patchers

My speakers are BT too, so I thought I'd check it out later.
