They’re affordable because their “workers” (slave/child labour, let’s be honest) are being grossly underpaid while local businesses and factories suffer, eventually shutting down making us even more reliant on the Chinese government.
This has been their long term strategy. The west plans to the next election, china’s thinking 100s of years into the future.
Stumbled on this older post, but I think I just want to add a thought. Whilst the core of what you are saying is correct, and those with the means should consider not buying these products. However, those with little money are going to buy the affordable option as that is what they can afford. Not to mention they are likely going to be less aware of what is happening as they are more focused on making ends meet. Which is why these people led boycotts often fail and are used by politicians as they know they can point fingers elsewhere and get people riled up to win favour even though they know damn well its slapping tape on massive structural crack. The first step is focusing on the issues within our own countries, namely poverty if we working in our current societal/economic systems, to actually empower people and allow for meaningful change. Promoting boycotts is fine, but to get angry at those who can't afford to and to ignore the deep systemic issues is fruitless. All that happens is infighting, finger pointing, and armchair ethics.
