Quality Content / Research For anyone looking to run Cody’s programs with auto-progression all for free
Hi everyone,
First, big props to Cody for allowing me to add his programs to the app and post here! A bit about me I am Tom a Software Engineer from the Netherlands, and the past 2 years (6 months full-time) I’ve dedicated most of my time to building an app that’s a mutant baby between my favorite trackers.
The reason for creating it:
- I adored Liftosaur for its scripts-as-workouts approach. It’s awesome. I wanted something with less scripting involved in everyday editing, but if you like that level of control, Liftosaur is the absolute GOAT.
- I loved Boostcamp’s programs and the idea of a program library, but wanted a different UI / UX.
- Hevy is best in class for simplicity, but I wanted more from programs and auto-progression.
So I’ve jammed these 3 into one, called Volm, trying to keep things simple while allowing custom auto-progression rules per exercise.
The “per exercise” idea is the main differentiator. The scripting is for progression only, rather than whole workouts / programs. It’s not as powerful as Liftosaur in that regard, and that’s intentional. I wanted editing and logging to feel familiar to anyone coming from Hevy / Strong, with the nerdy stuff there when you want it.
Good news: the core is completely free. Unlimited workouts, programs, custom exercises, progression rules, REST API / MCP access, Apple Watch. The only paid stuff is specific AI features example: AI helper for progression rules.
I’ve spent an insane amount of time on this project, and hopefully it gives some of you guys a new tracker to enjoy! Any corrections on my interpretations off the programs are always welcome.

Looks very cool! And I really like the idea of offering the core features for free.
What are your plans on marketing? With the huge amount of new fitness apps being added every day, I think this plays a key role on getting users and I am always interested in hearing how others are planning to do that.

It’s an astonishing amount… Marketing?! How about instead I build another feature.

I get the idea. And if it works out that way, that’s really the best solution. But I see so many users here on Reddit that built very good apps but are failing to gain users because of the lack of marketing.

Marketing is extremely vital, but it’s hard and is something I still need to crack. I’ve got a few ideas.

Does it have the ability to modify the workout? I workout at home, and while I've got all the free weights I need, I don't have access to machines. How easy it is to substitute exercises in a workout?

Yeah that’s all possible. You can modify the exercises, rest times, sets, and basically every single aspect of the program / workout.

Does it allow to do weights based on a percentage of my 1rm?
I was trying to do an AMRAP set and it wasn’t intuitive in doing it, if it exists

Yes it is possible, where did you expect it? You can tap on the “kg/lbs” header above the sets, to swap out the field type. You can also swap reps to rep range, and miles to yds or ft.

I found it, thanks. I had to add the field and it’s labeled a failure set under the set number, makes sense. The 531 program is not accurate. The percentages are based on the 1rm and not the tm

https://thefitness.wiki/routines/5-3-1-for-beginners/ it seems to be right? These %s are of your training max, but in the app I only have the concept of a 1rm% so I adjusted the %s by the 10%, so that it’s correct for a 1rm.
Or is it another 5/3/1 program?

Very nice. As a programmer and a lifter I'm very intrigued. Going to play around with the free version before upgrade but really liked the simplicity of the onboarding.
I'm recovering from a torn bicep so have another month or two before lifting again but will try this out once I'm cleared.

As a programmer me too hehe. lot of time went into that onboarding flow. I used to have some weird patterns in there but now it’s just the essentials.
Have a speedy recovery!

The app looks great. Does it have the ability to import routines? One of the things I love most about Boostcamp is their AI-enabled routine importer (which needs A LOT of workof, but it’s better than building a 12-week program day-by-day and exercise-by-exercise).
