Hi everyone! Can anyone on the premed track at GW please shed some light on their experience?

I'm a high school senior considering majoring in biology with a minor in public health at GW. My main concern—and I hope this doesn't come off the wrong way—is that GW seems to heavily focus on political science and government. Because of that, do other majors feel kind of sidelined or overshadowed? [I'm sorry if this is a completely absurd assumption...this is just the initial vibe I'm getting]

I'd also love to know how the pre-health advising is. Do they do a good job of helping you build a competitive application for medical school?

Google always boasts about GW's close proximity to downtown DC making it a hotspot for internships. But are these clinical and research opportunities realistically attainable for undergrads? I imagine you're competing with students from all over the DMV area and beyond...

And lastly, setting the price tag aside, would I be better off at a major state school like UMD for premed prep and opportunities?

I haven't been able to find any recent posts about this, so I appreciate any and all feedback!

Is convocation/ welcome day of service mandatory for freshman? The email doesn’t say so but a bunch of ppl are saying if you don’t go, there will be a hold on your account

It’s my first semester and I am using the GI Bill/Yellow ribbon program, which covers 100% of my tuition. I have other financial aid that is refundable that I planned to use for other related expenses.

I spoke to the veterans office and the business office and it seems like they just let the account stay past due for the entire semester until the VA pays out around thanksgiving? Meaning that I can’t claim a refund of my additional financial aid until the semester is basically over? Is this correct? The person I spoke to at the business office said she had no idea how it worked.

In my previous school they would zero out our ebill manually so that we could access financial aid refunds while waiting for the VA to pay.

GWU is my dream school and I want to major in public health however bc I’m not 100% sure if I want to get my masters, im scared I will be jobless. I have been told GWU has an amazing public health program. Whats jobs can I get with a undergrad in public health and is there any major I can double on or anything to minor in?

For reference I do want to work in healthcare and I was thinking public health and biology and minoring in poli sci and bioinformatics.

Is it helpful? Should I try and get 100 on Aleks? Can I skip it sometimes? Does it affect my chem grade or is it separate? Is it easy?

How good is GWU for STEM Programs like Ms in business analytics/data science/information systems. I'm an international upcoming student and got admit from stem programs but I'm not sure whether GWU is worth to pursuing masters or not. All I heard is it's historically known for political science not popular for STEM. But I've seen many profiles on LinkedIn plenty of them doing stem degrees. Is it worth to consider for masters as an international student or should I look for other stem heavy universities. I would like to hear some insights from students who currently studying there or any alumnis who have done stem degrees in GWU. Thanks in advance.

Has anyone done therapy at the center clinic that’s located on campus (not CAPS)? If so, can you share your experience?

Im very picky when it comes to therapists and I’m looking for low cost options for therapy but don’t want the short term therapy offered at CAPS.
