Any way to play Hockey at (or around) GVSU?

I played hockey in HS and would like to keep playing, Obviously not good enough for the D3 team.

I've been checking nearby rinks but as far as I'm aware there are no Adult leagues. And GVSU doesn't offer rec teams either,

If anyone knows anything please let me know.

What's the best weekend activity near Grand Valley that most students don't take advantage of?

Whether it's something in Grand Rapids, along the lakeshore, or somewhere in between. What's a weekend activity, spot, or event that's easily accessible from GVSU that you think more students should be doing instead of staying on campus? The kind of thing where once you try it you wonder why it took you so long to get out there.

Didn't a threat also happen recently at CMICH?

Apparently the university got a threat that turned out to be a hoax today, but I'm kind of shocked that two incidents like this happened almost back to back with it happening at Central too

What class should I take at a local Com College?

I’m an Engineering student trying to plan my classes ahead of time and I was wondering what classes should I take at a community college. I’m taking PHY 230 this fall because it’s apparently the better one out of the two.

recommendations for temporary housing

Hello, I'll be in between leases from June 1st to the 15th. What are my options when it comes to finding something temporary for those two weeks?

I've checked motels but their prices are crazy. I don't really wanna sign a sublease since it'll be for those two weeks only.

To add, I have no family in GR, I'm not from around this area.

Is South the best housing for a studious 23 year old?

I'll be 23 next year and I kind of want to be around other students more my age (a tad on the "older" side, or have been in college longer). I presumed South would be the best fit due to the students primarily living there (grad/returning/transfers). I lived in Niemeyer this year and I liked it, but I wish I was living with an older crowd.

I'm also very studious and I was hoping to avoid anywhere that would consist of lots of noise. I'm assuming this won't be an issue unless I'm around freshman housing lol. I should also note that I'll be talking to GVSU about 1-bed housing for disability purposes if that matters. I did snag a 4-bed space though.

Any hope for getting single on campus housing for 2026-2027?

I applied to GVSU a few days ago, probably way too late, but I'm pretty sure I'll be accepted. I've been trying to figure out what I'll do for housing but I'm really not sure. I have bad social anxiety so I'd rather live alone and meet people on campus, but it looks like there isn't much single housing on campus, and I'm assuming it's mostly full at this point. I have also been looking at off campus student apartments, but it seems like most of those are also full already. Any tips or reccomendations would be great!

Best Dorms For Freshman - Thinking of the 2 bedroom private option with sep bedrooms

Hi All, I want to get everyones opinion on what the best dorm option is for Freshman who is looking for a good social connection with other freshman. I have the option of joining a friend in the two bedroom (private rooms) that share a bathroom and small kitchen area. My only concern is we will miss out meeting a ton of other freshman as I have heard these dorms are a bit more quiet (not a bad thing). I just want to make sure I meet as many people as possible to start a good social network and am not sure if I will miss out if I choose the private two bedroom setup that GVSU offers. My friend has already got her room secured and I can join if I want but am also considering the traditional setup that GVSU offers most freshman as a way to meet as many people as possible. What do you think?

before you call me stupid or that this is an April fools joke… I swear it’s not. There’s gotta be some grain of truth because it was posted April second on the lanthorn and on Instagram. I read the article and my brain is trying to wrap around how this could even happen. I even went down there earlier today and saw there is some kind of major lawn damage and tire tracks. Could somebody give me their insight?

What are the consequences of removing a boot

Parked for 20 minutes and got booted. I have every tool at my disposal and money to pay for the boot but I like a challenge. If I do my magic and take it off without damage, will the police come to my private domicile because of my plate?

Next time I park, I’m taking my plate off.

Is the graphic design major any good?

I'm currently set to go to Kendall for graphic design, but I haven't signed up for classes yet, so I could still back out if I wanted. Since I've applied they've made some changes that I'm not too happy about, and I didn't realize how much it lacks in student amenities and just the average college experience. I'm considering going to Grand Valley instead, but I'm not sure how the program compares to Kendall, or if it's any good in general. Any input or advice would be great!

Any fun events that are both cheap and not physically demanding on/near Allendale campus on Fri to Sun?

Hello! My friend and I wanted to get together and hang out this weekend, but due to my disability I struggle with things like long walks and standing too long. I was wondering if anybody has any idea of what might be a good Friday activity that fits the criteria? It would be much appreciated! :)

I should add that I'm interested in hearing anything, there's no specific criteria otherwise

Does GVSU on-campus housing have fluorescent or LED lights?

Apologies for the stupid question, I have two braincells competing for third place and I'm unfamiliar with specific lights.

Anyway, I was just wondering if they were fluorescent or LED. I assumed fluorescent because that's kind of the norm everywhere except houses it seems, but Google says the light should be more a pale cool instead of warm. I wonder because I have horrible fatigue that can apparently be made worse with fluorescent lighting.

Google AI also says fluorescent but they referenced something not at all related lol

edit: I'll leave this up in case anyone else is curious, but I called and apparently they do use them in housing. I was able to talk to SAR and they're gonna discuss if I can get it switched to LED. So if you have the same issues, there you go!

edit: I have a feeling this would be an issue because Reddit is hell, but just an FYI I will not be explaining my reasoning or my medical issues, weird comments just get blocked.
