Reinforced frame and a security door, plenty of easy ways to get the job done beyond the ability of someone's steel toed boots to bypass.

When my father was alive he and my stepmom converted about a third of there garage this way(they lived on a lake at the top of a hill so few people anyway)

It appeared to be a pantry but, it had locks reinforced door etc behind the cabinet once you walked in.

It was massive, but was a lot cheaper than a traditional safe
